Driving lessons Hospital
What lessons in Hospital include
Three test centres are in reach of Hospital, so your driving school in Hospital should be ready to prepare you for any of them. We are, with one-hour lessons, a dual-controlled car and pick-up included.
Collected at the community school
If you are a student at John the Baptist Community School, your instructor can collect you there. Otherwise it is home or work, and the pick-up is always in the price.
RSA-approved, every lesson
You learn with an instructor the RSA has approved, in a car fitted with dual controls. That holds for every lesson, from the first one near home to the drives over Knockainey Bridge.
Unhurried lessons
Nervous learners are welcome, and the hour is never rushed. Your instructor stays calm, and Main Street waits until moving off and stopping feel easy.
Honest about readiness
Whether you aim for Tipperary town, Mitchelstown or Woodview, we tell you plainly when you are ready. If you are not, you hear what is missing.
Both transmissions taught
We teach in both kinds of car. A manual pass covers both, and an automatic pass adds code 78, which keeps you to automatics.
Instructor preferences welcome
Would a female instructor suit you better? Let us know when you enquire, with anything else that matters, and we factor it into who teaches you.

Manual driving lessons Hospital
Manual lessons in Hospital begin near your pick-up with the controls, so the clutch, the gears and smooth stops come first. Junctions and roundabouts follow, then reversing. Main Street and Hospital Bridge come into the early drives, and Ahnageeragh Bridge and Knockainey Bridge as the lessons stretch further. Your instructor tells you at the end of every hour what to expect next time. The last few lessons are spent in the area around the centre you applied to.

Automatic driving lessons Hospital
Automatic driving lessons in Hospital spare you the clutch and gear changes, which leaves more attention for mirrors and road position. You learn the same skills and sit the same test. The licence is the difference: an automatic pass carries code 78, so you may drive automatic cars only, while a manual pass covers both. We confirm which automatic car and instructor are free for Hospital when you get in touch.

EDT lessons in Hospital
Learner permit holders must finish 12 lessons of Essential Driver Training with an Approved Driving Instructor before a test. In Hospital, every one of them starts from the point we agreed with you, and each is signed off in your logbook at the end.
EDT is not a course you study for. It is the first part of learning to drive, done in the car. Some foreign licence holders qualify for six lessons rather than 12. The full manual course costs €587.95, and the automatic is on its ticket.

Getting ready for the test
Three centres to choose from Hospital
Your closest option is Tipperary town: 20.7 km by road, roughly 25 minutes. Mitchelstown in County Cork is about 30 minutes away and Woodview in Limerick about 35. Three counties, three centres, all within reach, so apply to the one whose dates suit you. Newcastle West trails at about 50 minutes.
The pretest takes place shortly before your test: one hour in the area around your chosen centre, with car hire for the test included. The automatic package is €193.81. So the car you test in is the one you learned in, and the roads near the centre are not new to you.

Learning in Hospital
Lessons on the roads around Hospital
Your first lesson stays near where you were collected, so all your attention goes on the car. Main Street and Hospital Bridge come in early on. Later lessons cross Ahnageeragh Bridge and Knockainey Bridge as your speed and your judgement improve.
The only meeting point we name in Hospital is John the Baptist Community School. Your home or workplace works just as well. Agree the point when you book, and say if you would like to be dropped somewhere else agreed at the end.
Kilmallock and Kilfinane, 12.9 km and 13.1 km from Hospital in a straight line, are on our list. Tipperary town, 17.7 km across the county line, is on our list too. In each, the lesson starts from an agreed point in that town.

EDT and the test
The EDT: a guide
The EDT logbook is a simple record: one signed entry for each of your 12 lessons. Your instructor signs it before you leave the car in Hospital, and you keep it between lessons. Once it is full, the next step is the test centre, and we help you decide which of the three suits you.

Hospital questions
A few good questions
Is Tipperary town or Mitchelstown nearer to Hospital?
Tipperary town is nearer, about 25 minutes by road against about 30 for Mitchelstown. Woodview in Limerick is about 35 minutes. Any of the three can be your test centre, so the date often decides it.
Do you collect from John the Baptist Community School?
Yes. Once the school is agreed as your pick-up point, your instructor meets you there. At the end of the hour you are dropped back or taken home, as arranged.
Is the price the same in Hospital as in Limerick?
Yes. One price list covers every town we teach in, and collection and drop-off are part of it. A single automatic hour is €61.41, and the other prices are on the tickets.
Do I need my learner permit before I enquire?
You need it before your first lesson, and you need a theory test pass to get it from the NDLS. You can still send the form or call 021 2355558 to ask questions before then.
