Driving lessons Doon
Doon lessons at a glance
With driving lessons in Doon, the hour starts where you are collected and ends back there. An Approved Driving Instructor teaches you in a dual-controlled car, and we prepare you for whichever centre you choose.
The community centre or home
Doon Community Centre is a handy agreed pick-up point, and home or work does just as well. Either way, the collection is part of the price.
Approved and dual-controlled
An Approved Driving Instructor sits beside you, and the car has dual controls. That support is there from your opening lesson, long before Derraun Bridge comes into it.
A calm car
Nervous learners get a steady, quiet hour with nobody raising their voice. You move on to the next skill when you feel ready, not before.
Straight talk about your test
We tell you honestly whether you are ready for the Tipperary centre or Woodview. If you are not yet, you hear the reason, and nobody sells you hours you do not need.
Clutch or none, you decide
Both are taught. Pass in a manual and you can drive either type of car, but pass in an automatic and code 78 restricts you to automatics.
Say what helps you learn
When you enquire, tell us anything that matters to you, including a preference for a female instructor. It all goes into the choice of instructor.

Manual driving lessons Doon
Manual lessons in Doon start near your pick-up with the controls, taking the clutch and gears slowly until moving off feels natural. Next you practise junctions, roundabouts and the reversing manoeuvres. Cahernahallia Bridge and Derraun Bridge come into the drives as your confidence builds, and the lessons reach further from Doon as you improve. In the final weeks, your instructor plans lessons in the area around your chosen centre, whether that is Tipperary town or Woodview, so nothing about it is new on the day.

Learn in an automatic
Automatic driving lessons Doon
Automatic driving lessons in Doon take gear changes out of your hands, which can make the early hours easier. The test is the same, and so is everything you learn about the road. The licence differs: with an automatic pass you get code 78 and may drive automatics only, whereas a manual pass covers both. Mention it when you enquire, because automatic instructors are not free in every town at every time.

EDT lessons in Doon
12EDT lessons6Reduced EDT
Before your test, the rules ask for 12 lessons of Essential Driver Training with an Approved Driving Instructor. We collect you in Doon for every one, and your instructor signs your logbook as each lesson ends, so you can always see how far through you are.

Getting ready for the test
Testing in Tipperary town from Doon
The nearest centre to Doon is in Tipperary town, 20.5 km by road and about 25 minutes. Woodview in Limerick is 31.6 km, about 35 minutes, if you would rather test on the Limerick side. Thurles and Shannon are both about 45 minutes away, and are worth a look only if the nearer two are booked.
Once your date is set, book the pretest: an hour in the area around your centre shortly before the test, with the car for the test included. The manual version is €183.63 in all. That way the car on test day is the one you know from your Doon lessons.

Learning in Doon
Learning on Doon roads
The first lesson stays close to where you were collected, so you can get to know the car without distractions. Derraun Bridge and Cahernahallia Bridge come into the following lessons, and the drives stretch out as your steering and speed control improve.
We can collect you from Doon Community Centre, which is the one meeting point we name here, or from home or work. Tell us your choice when you book. Drop-off is at the same point, or at another one agreed in advance.
Cappamore is 6.0 km from Doon in a straight line, and Cappawhite, over the border in County Tipperary, is 6.1 km. We teach in both, and learners there book with us the same way and are collected in their own town.

EDT and the test
The EDT: a guide
One EDT lesson, one signature: that is how your logbook works. Your instructor signs it at the end of each hour, and you keep it with you between lessons in Doon. When the twelfth page is signed, you have the record you need before applying for a test in Tipperary town or Woodview.

Doon questions
A few good questions
Can I take my test in Tipperary town instead of Limerick?
Yes. Tipperary town is the nearest centre to Doon, about 25 minutes by road, while Woodview in Limerick is about 35. Apply to whichever suits, and we plan your pretest for that centre.
Where will my instructor collect me in Doon?
At home, at work or at Doon Community Centre, whichever we agree when you book. The pick-up and the drop-off are both included in the price of the lesson, whichever point you choose.
Can I book lessons in Doon as a present?
Yes. Gift vouchers cover 1, 3, 6 or 12 lessons, manual or automatic. When the person you give it to books, we agree a pick-up point in Doon with them.
How long does it take to learn to drive in Doon?
There is no fixed answer. Everyone on a learner permit completes the 12 EDT lessons, and beyond that it depends on how you progress. We tell you honestly when you are ready, so you only book what you need.
