Some foreign licence holders qualify for a reduced course of six lessons, so mention your licence when you enquire. Everyone else completes the full Essential Driver Training: 12 lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor before the test. Your instructor signs every one of them in the logbook as it is done.
We run your EDT lessons from Abbeystrewry Hall or your home, one hour at a time. When the logbook is complete and your driving is at the standard, booking the Skibbereen centre is the natural next step. The pretest happens close by too.

Getting ready for the test
A test centre in Skibbereen
Your nearest test centre is in Skibbereen itself, about 1.6 km and 5 minutes by road. That means no long drive on test day. Wilton is the next nearest, about 80.9 km and 75 minutes by road, if you ever want to look further afield for a date. The Mallow centre is about 100 minutes away.
The pretest is a one-hour lesson in the area around the centre shortly before your test, plus car hire for the test itself. That way the car on test day is one you already know. A manual pretest with car hire costs €183.63, the same as it would for a centre further away.

Early lessons start near your pick-up point and stay with the controls until moving off and stopping are easy. You then progress onto Townsend Street and High Street. Later come Bán Road and The New Line Road, where you practise longer drives and planning ahead.
Abbeystrewry Hall is the meeting point we use in Skibbereen. If it does not suit you, we agree pick-up at your home, school or work instead. We drop you back at the same point after each lesson, at no extra cost.
We also teach in Dunmanway, 21.9 km away in a straight line, and in Clonakilty. Across the county line we teach in Kenmare, in Kerry, which is 42.9 km away. If you live in one of those towns, tell us and we will agree pick-up there.
