Driving lessonsMacroom
Get picked up at Macroom bus station or at home for each one-hour lesson. For the test, you can choose Wilton, Killarney or the Mallow centre, all within about 50 minutes by road.
Why learners in Macroom choose us
Driving lessons in Macroom with us come with an Approved Driving Instructor and a dual-controlled car. When you are ready, you have a choice of three test centres.
Pick-up off the bus
If you come into town by bus, we can collect you at Macroom bus station. Home, school or work is fine too, and pick-up is part of the lesson price.
An ADI beside you
Each lesson is with an Approved Driving Instructor, approved by the RSA, in a car with dual controls. That second set of pedals is there from your early drives along New Road.
Calm, never rushed
Nobody shouts during lessons. If you get flustered, we pull in somewhere safe, talk it through and carry on when you are ready.
A fair verdict before Wilton
Wilton, Killarney and the Mallow centre give you a choice of dates, but a date is no use until you are ready. We tell you plainly when you are, and what still needs work when you are not.
Automatic or manual
Both are taught, and your pretest around Wilton or Killarney can be in either. An automatic pass gives a code 78 licence, for automatic cars only; a manual pass covers both.
Your say in the instructor
When you enquire, tell us what matters to you. If you would feel more at ease with a female instructor, ask, and we will tell you what we can do.

Manual driving lessons Macroom
A manual course starts with the controls and moving off, close to the bus station or your home. Cork Street and New Road come next, as you learn gears, junctions and turns. Once those are steady, lessons take in Millstreet Road and Masseytown Road for longer drives where you plan ahead and hold your speed. When you can drive the full hour safely with little prompting, you are close to test standard, and we will say so.

We offer automatic driving lessons in Macroom for learners who would prefer not to deal with a clutch and gears. Passing in an automatic means a code 78 licence, which limits you to automatic cars. Passing in a manual leaves you free to drive both. Because instructor times differ by town, we confirm who will teach you, and in which car, when you enquire.

Macroom lesson prices
Pick-up at the bus station or your home is already built into each price shown. Single lessons and packages can both be paid for online or over the phone.
EDT lessons in Macroom
EDT means 12 lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor, all finished on your learner permit before you sit the test. You can do yours from Macroom, starting each one at the bus station or your agreed point. Every lesson is signed off in your logbook as you go.
A foreign licence can, in some cases, cut the course to six lessons. If that might be you, tell us when you enquire and we will check. Your EDT lessons can be in a manual or an automatic, and the same calm approach applies to both.
The EDT guide ↗Three centres within reach of Macroom
Of the centres you could use, Wilton is closest, about 37 km and 35 minutes by road from Macroom. Killarney is about 48.4 km and 45 minutes, and the Mallow centre about 44.7 km and 50 minutes. With three centres in reach, you can look for the earliest date across all of them. Skibbereen is the long option, about 60 minutes away.
Before your test, the pretest gives you a one-hour lesson in the area around your chosen centre, plus car hire for the test itself. So the car you sit the test in is the one you practised in. Book your test first, then tell us the date and centre, and we will arrange the pretest.
Macroom roads, step by step
Lessons start near your pick-up point, with the basics on Cork Street and New Road. As your confidence builds, we bring in Millstreet Road and Masseytown Road at your own pace. They give you longer stretches to practise judging speed and planning ahead.
Macroom bus station is the meeting point we offer, which helps if you travel in by bus from outside town. If you would rather be collected at home, school or work, we agree that point instead. Drop-off is at the same place.
We also teach learners in Millstreet, 18.7 km away in a straight line, and in Dunmanway and Blarney. If you live closer to one of those than to Macroom, tell us, and we will agree a pick-up point nearer you.

The EDT: a guide
The book pictured is an EDT logbook, and yours fills up one signature at a time across the 12 lessons. Bring it along each time. Once every lesson is signed and your driving is safe for the full hour, we look at dates with you. Wilton, Killarney and the Mallow centre are all options.
