Learning with us in Adare

Picking a driving school in Adare mostly comes down to who sits beside you and where you will sit the test. We answer both before your first lesson, and the pick-up comes with the price.

Collection is in the price

Adare Community Hall works as a pick-up point if home is awkward, and so does your workplace. Being collected and dropped back costs nothing on top of the lesson.

An ADI in the passenger seat

Every hour, from the first gentle laps to Rathkeale Road, is taught by an Approved Driving Instructor. The car has dual controls, so your instructor can brake too.

Lessons without raised voices

Nervous drivers in Adare learn at the speed that suits them. Nobody shouts, and a new road comes in only when the last one feels settled.

A straight answer on readiness

Before you apply for Castlemungret or Newcastle West, we tell you honestly whether you are ready. If not, you hear what is missing instead of being sold more hours.

Pick your gearbox

We teach in manual and automatic cars. Pass in a manual and you can drive both, while an automatic pass puts code 78 on your licence.

Choose what matters to you

When you enquire, tell us what you want from an instructor, including whether you would rather learn with a woman. We make the match with those answers in mind.

Manual driving lessons Adare

A manual lesson in Adare begins with the basics close to your pick-up point: the clutch, the gears and moving off without a jolt. When those come without thinking, junctions and roundabouts follow, then reversing and turning in the road. Croom Road and Rathkeale Road bring longer stretches at steadier speeds, where you practise planning ahead and holding your position. By the last few lessons, your instructor is talking less and you are making the decisions. That is what test standard looks like.

Automatic driving lessons Adare

With automatic driving lessons in Adare, there is no clutch to learn, so more of each hour goes on observation and judgement. You sit the same test at the same centres. The one difference comes afterwards: an automatic pass gives you a licence with code 78, which covers automatic cars only. Not sure which to choose? Tell us your plans when you enquire, and we confirm which car and instructor are free for Adare.

EDT lessons in Adare

If you hold a learner permit, the rules require 12 Essential Driver Training lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor before you can sit the test. Each one is an ordinary hour in the car from your Adare pick-up point, and your instructor signs it off in your logbook.

The course costs €587.95 in a manual car. Some foreign licence holders need only six lessons, so mention yours when you first get in touch. After the twelfth signature, your instructor tells you plainly whether you are ready to apply or what still needs work.

Getting ready for the test

Two centres, both about 20 minutes

From Adare, two test centres are about equally close. Castlemungret, one of the two Limerick centres, is 19.7 km by road and Newcastle West 24 km, and each takes about 20 minutes. Shannon, at about 30 minutes, and Ennis, at about 40, are further away. Apply to whichever offers a date that suits, and we plan your final lessons around it.

The pretest is a one-hour lesson in the area around the centre you chose, booked for shortly before your test. It comes with car hire for the test itself, so you sit it in the car you have been learning in. In a manual, the pair costs €183.63. Book it through the form or on 021 2355558 once your date is fixed.

Learning in Adare

How Adare lessons build up

We start close to your pick-up point, so the first hour is about the car rather than the road. From there you move out onto Croom Road, then Rathkeale Road, where longer drives give you time to practise speed and lane position. Each lesson adds one new thing.

Pick-up is from home, work or Adare Community Hall, whichever suits your day, as long as we agree it in advance. You can be dropped at a different agreed point if that helps, for example collected from work and left home. Put the details on the form.

We also teach in Patrickswell, 6.2 km away in a straight line, and in Kildimo and Croom, which are a similar distance. Learners from all three are collected in their own town, so nobody has to travel to Adare for a lesson.

The EDT: a guide

The logbook is your proof of EDT. Bring it to every lesson in Adare, and your instructor signs that hour's page before you get out of the car. Once all 12 are signed, flick back to the start and compare it with where you are now. It is a quiet way to see progress.

Adare questions

A few good questions

Does pick-up from Adare Community Hall cost extra?

No. If we agree the hall as your pick-up point, collection there is part of the price, just as home or work would be. Your instructor brings you back to the hall at the end of the hour, unless you have arranged a different drop-off.

Should I pick Castlemungret or Newcastle West?

Whichever has the earlier date that suits you. Both are about 20 minutes from Adare by road, so the drive is much the same. Once you choose, your pretest and final lessons are planned in the area around that centre.

How much is one lesson in Adare?

A single manual hour costs €53.27, and the automatic price shows on the tickets. Pick-up and drop-off at your agreed point are included, so the figure you see is the figure you pay, online or by phone.

What do I need before my first lesson?

A pass in the theory test and a learner permit from the NDLS. Then send the form on this page or ring 021 2355558, say where in Adare you would like to be collected, and we match you with an Approved Driving Instructor.
