Driving lessons Kildimo

Kildimo lessons, what to expect

Driving lessons in Kildimo are one hour each, taught by an Approved Driving Instructor in a dual-controlled car. You are collected, taught at your own pace and told honestly when you are ready.

Pick-up at the national school

Kildimo National School can be your agreed pick-up point, or home or work if that suits better. Being collected and dropped back is in the price.

Dual controls on Main Street

Every lesson is with an Approved Driving Instructor in a dual-controlled car. If you need help on your first drive down Main Street, it is right there.

Quiet, patient hours

Your instructor keeps lessons calm and never shouts. Nervous learners take each step when they are ready, with no pressure to hurry.

A fair verdict on readiness

We tell you honestly whether you are ready for Castlemungret, and what is missing if you are not. You will not be talked into hours you do not need.

Manual or automatic, both taught

Choose the car that fits your plans. A manual pass covers both types, while an automatic pass is limited by code 78 to automatics.

Preferences welcome

You can ask for a female instructor when you enquire, and tell us anything else that would help. We bear it in mind when we choose who teaches you.

Manual driving lessons Kildimo

Manual lessons in Kildimo begin with the controls near your pick-up point: clutch, gears, steering, and stopping exactly where you plan to. Junctions, roundabouts and reversing follow in turn. Main Street comes into the early lessons, and the drives then go further out to give you practice at higher speeds. Because Castlemungret is about 15 minutes away, your last lessons can spend real time in the area around the centre.

Automatic driving lessons Kildimo

Our automatic driving lessons in Kildimo use a car with no clutch and no gear lever to work, so you can concentrate on observation and positioning from the first hour. The test is the same as for manual learners. The licence is not: an automatic pass is marked code 78 and limits you to automatic cars, while a manual pass covers both. Ask about automatic times for Kildimo, and we confirm your car and instructor.

EDT lessons in Kildimo

12EDT lessons6Reduced EDT

EDT, or Essential Driver Training, is 12 lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor that you must complete before the test if you hold a learner permit. We start each one from your pick-up point in Kildimo, and your instructor signs the logbook when it ends.

You will not see a list of EDT lessons to work through on your own, because your instructor plans them, and they feel like ordinary lessons. Some foreign licence holders need only six. In an automatic, all 12 cost €659.24.

Learning in Kildimo

Learning from Kildimo

Your first lesson starts near your pick-up point, with time to learn the controls before anything else. Main Street comes in once moving off feels easy. After that, drives reach further out of Kildimo, adding speed, junctions and planning, one step per lesson.

Your instructor can meet you at Kildimo National School if that suits. You can also choose home or work instead. Agree it with us when you book, and you can be dropped at the same point or at another agreed one.

Pallaskenry is next on our list, 4.2 km away in a straight line, with Adare at 6.8 km. We teach in both, and in Patrickswell, so a learner who works in one town and lives in another can simply tell us which town suits for pick-up.

The EDT: a guide

Twelve EDT lessons, twelve signatures. Your logbook is signed at the end of each hour by your instructor, so by the time the course is done you have a full record. In Kildimo, with Castlemungret so close, the pretest can follow soon after, once your instructor agrees you are ready.

Kildimo questions

A few good questions

How quickly can I reach Castlemungret from Kildimo?

By road it is 11.4 km, roughly 15 minutes. Being that close means more of your pretest hour goes on the area around the centre rather than on travel. After it comes Shannon, about 25 minutes away.

What about Kildimo National School as a pick-up point?

Yes, once it is agreed as your pick-up point. Your instructor meets you there and brings you back at the end of the hour, or drops you home if that was arranged.

Will I need more than the 12 EDT lessons?

Possibly, and that is normal. The 12 are the minimum the rules set, and beyond them it depends on how you progress. We tell you honestly when you are ready, so you never pay for hours you do not need.

How do I contact a driving instructor in Kildimo?

The form on this page reaches us, and so does 021 2355558. You need a learner permit, which the NDLS issues once you pass the theory test. Tell us your pick-up point and whether you want manual or automatic.
