Choosing lessons in Askeaton

With driving lessons in Askeaton, the lesson comes to you. Your instructor collects you, teaches the hour in a dual-controlled car and drops you back at the agreed point.

No trip to start a lesson

Pick-up from your house, your school or your job in Askeaton is part of the lesson price. It is the same price you would pay in Rathkeale or Pallaskenry.

An ADI every lesson

An Approved Driving Instructor teaches every lesson, in a car fitted with dual controls. You can start on William Street knowing the person beside you can stop the car.

Calm, steady hours

Learners who feel anxious behind the wheel get the time they need. There is no shouting, and nothing new is added before you are ready for it.

An honest view of your test

Whether your test will be at Newcastle West or Castlemungret, we tell you straight when you are ready. If you are not there yet, you hear exactly what is missing.

Manual or automatic, you decide

Both are on offer, confirmed for Askeaton when you enquire. A manual pass licenses you for both kinds of car, and an automatic pass is limited by code 78.

Preferences taken on board

If you would like a female instructor, or have anything else in mind, tell us on the form or the phone. We use it when we choose your instructor.

Manual driving lessons Askeaton

Your first manual hours in Askeaton cover the controls one at a time: clutch, gears, steering and braking smoothly. Once you can move off and stop without thinking, you add junctions, turns and reversing. William Street comes in early, and later lessons take in the Askeaton Bypass, where you practise holding a steady speed and planning well ahead. Each lesson ends with a quick word on what improved and what comes next. When your drives need few prompts, we talk about booking the test.

Automatic driving lessons Askeaton

Automatic driving lessons in Askeaton suit learners who would rather not deal with a clutch at all. The car changes gear for you, so the hour goes on observation, speed and positioning. Keep the licence in mind: pass in an automatic and you get code 78, which limits you to automatic cars, while a manual pass covers both. We check automatic availability for Askeaton when you first contact us.

EDT lessons in Askeaton

Before any driving test, a learner permit holder needs 12 EDT lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor. They are ordinary one-hour lessons that start from your Askeaton pick-up, and your instructor signs each one in your logbook as you finish the hour.

Each EDT hour builds on the one before, and your instructor plans them so you never need to study a syllabus first. If your licence was issued abroad, ask whether you qualify for the reduced six-lesson course. The full 12 in a manual car come to €587.95.

Getting ready for the test

Two centres within reach of Askeaton

The closest centre to Askeaton is Newcastle West, 22.5 km and about 20 minutes away by road. Castlemungret in Limerick is barely further at 23.5 km, about 25 minutes, so check both for dates before you apply. Shannon, about 40 minutes, and Ennis, about 50, are there if neither suits.

The pretest gives you one hour in the area around your chosen centre shortly before the test, plus the car for the test itself. That way the controls, the mirrors and the seat are all familiar on the day. Ask about it once your test date arrives, on the form or 021 2355558.

Learning in Askeaton

From William Street outwards

Your first lesson begins near the point you are collected from, with time to get comfortable in the seat. William Street comes in early on. As your control improves, the lessons head out onto the Askeaton Bypass for practice at higher, steadier speeds.

Pick-up in Askeaton is from your home, your school or your workplace, agreed when you book. Drop-off is at the same place unless we arrange another one, which helps if your day starts in one place and ends in another.

Rathkeale and Pallaskenry, 8.8 km and 9.5 km from Askeaton in a straight line, are both towns we teach in. Across the county line, Shannon in Clare is on our list too. A learner in any of them books with us the same way.

The EDT: a guide

Your logbook goes everywhere your learner permit goes. After each EDT lesson in Askeaton your instructor signs it, and when all 12 signatures are in, you hold the record the test requires. Keep the two together between lessons, and bring both each time, so the paperwork side of learning takes care of itself.

Askeaton questions

A few good questions

Where will my lessons start in Askeaton?

At the point you agreed when booking, which can be your home, your school or your work. Your instructor arrives there, the hour begins, and you are dropped back at the end. There is no extra charge for the pick-up.

Which is better for my test, Newcastle West or Castlemungret?

Neither is better in itself. Newcastle West is about 20 minutes away and Castlemungret about 25, so the drive is similar. The one with a suitable date usually decides it, and we prepare you for whichever you choose.

How many lessons does a beginner in Askeaton need?

Twelve EDT lessons are the minimum for anyone on a learner permit. Beyond that it depends on you, so nobody can promise a number. We tell you honestly when you are ready, and we do not pad the course with hours you do not need.

Who do I contact about a driving instructor in Askeaton?

Phone 021 2355558 or send the form on this page once you hold a learner permit. Tell us where in Askeaton you would like to be collected, and whether you want manual or automatic.
