Driving lessonsShannon
Shannon has its own test centre, about 5 minutes from where we collect you, so the roads you practise on are the roads you test on. Pick-up is included in every lesson.
Your lessons in Shannon
With our driving lessons in Shannon, an Approved Driving Instructor collects you from an agreed point, teaches you for a full hour and tells you honestly how close you are to test standard.
Pick-up from school or home
Saint Caimins Community School can be your pick-up point, as can home or work. The lesson price includes being collected and dropped back.
An approved instructor
An Approved Driving Instructor teaches every hour, and the car has a brake on both sides. Tullyvarraga Road is a fine place to start once the pedals make sense.
Calm, clear lessons
Voices stay calm in our cars. Nervous learners move at their own pace, and the next skill only arrives once the last one feels routine.
Told straight when ready
With the centre so near, booking early is tempting. Your instructor tells you honestly when you are ready, and what still needs work if you are not.
Manual or automatic
Both are taught for the Shannon centre and for Ennis. A manual pass covers either kind of car, but an automatic pass adds code 78 to your licence, automatics only.
Your say on who teaches
Ask for a female instructor when you enquire, if you would prefer one. Tell us anything else that would help you settle in.

Manual driving lessons Shannon
Manual lessons in Shannon start with clutch control, gears and moving off smoothly near your pick-up point. Junctions and steady speeds come next, on Tullyvarraga Road and Drumgeely Road. As your confidence grows, the Shannon Access Road adds higher speeds and lane discipline. Manoeuvres come in along the way. Because the test centre is so close, many later lessons pass through its area without extra travel. When you reach test standard, we say so.

Automatic driving lessons in Shannon leave the clutch to the car, so your focus stays on observation, planning and road position. You still prepare for the Shannon centre in exactly the same way. The licence needs a moment's thought. An automatic pass gives you code 78, which allows automatic cars only, while a manual pass allows both. Instructor times vary from town to town, so we confirm an automatic car and instructor for Shannon when you enquire.

Shannon lesson prices
The tickets below show our prices for single lessons, EDT and the pretest, with Shannon pick-up and drop-off included in each.
EDT lessons in Shannon
Essential Driver Training is the course of 12 lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor that every learner permit holder completes before the test. Your logbook records each one. In Shannon, we can collect you from Saint Caimins Community School, if you are still a student there.
Holders of some foreign licences can do a reduced course of six lessons instead, so tell us which licence you have. In a manual, EDT costs €587.95 in total. Each lesson is taught properly, never rushed, so the signatures in your logbook mean real progress.
The EDT guide ↗The Shannon test centre
The Shannon test centre is just 0.8 km away, about 5 minutes by road. If its dates do not suit, Ennis is about 15 minutes away and Woodview in Limerick about 20, so you have two good alternatives. Kilrush, at about 50 minutes, is the furthest option. Your final lessons follow the centre you book.
Shortly before the test, the pretest gives you a one-hour lesson in the area around your centre, plus car hire for the test itself. On the day, you drive the same car you learned in, so the controls are already familiar. The pretest package in an automatic costs €193.81, payable online or by phone.
Shannon roads, from first lesson on
Early lessons stay near your pick-up point while you get used to the car. You then move out to Tullyvarraga Road and Drumgeely Road. Last comes the Shannon Access Road, for practice at higher speeds. The area around the test centre is part of normal lessons here.
Saint Caimins Community School is the meeting point we name for Shannon, useful if you are still at school. Home and work suit equally well. You are dropped back at the end of the hour, or at another point agreed in advance, and the pick-up is always included.
We also teach in Newmarket-on-Fergus and Sixmilebridge. The first is 5.8 km away in a straight line, the second 7.8 km. If you live in one and work in Shannon, you can be collected at work and dropped home. Both have the same prices as Shannon.

The EDT: a guide
Your EDT logbook gets your instructor's signature after every lesson, and you keep it with you. Have it with you at every lesson. Once twelve are signed, the course is done. Being ready for the Shannon test is a separate question, and with the centre this close, your instructor is careful to answer it honestly and without padding.
The EDT guide ↗ Preparing for the test ↗A few good questions
Is the Shannon test centre close by?
About 0.8 km, or 5 minutes by road. That means your later lessons can spend plenty of time in its area. If Shannon has no suitable date, Ennis and Woodview are both within about 20 minutes.
Is pick-up possible from Saint Caimins Community School?
Yes. Tell us the school is your agreed pick-up point, and your instructor meets you there. You can be dropped home afterwards or back at the school, with nothing added to the price.
Will a driving instructor in Shannon help me with roundabouts?
Yes. Once you can move off, stop and steer with confidence, roundabouts come into your lessons, along with lane choice and signalling. You practise them until they feel natural, at your own pace.
What should I sort out before a first lesson in Shannon?
You need a theory test pass and then a learner permit from the NDLS. Then call 021 2355558 or fill in the form, and we match you with an instructor and agree a pick-up point in Shannon.
