Driving lessons Clogheen

Clogheen lessons in practice

We start driving lessons in Clogheen at the point you choose, and every hour is with an Approved Driving Instructor in a dual-controlled car. Mitchelstown in Cork and Clonmel are both within about 25 minutes.

Collected at Saint Paul's

If home is awkward, meet your instructor at Saint Paul's Community Centre instead. Work is fine as well, and the collection never costs extra.

An RSA-approved teacher

Every hour is with an Approved Driving Instructor, and the passenger side has its own brake. That matters most in your first drives along Convent Road.

A calm hour, every hour

If driving makes you anxious, the lesson slows to match. Nobody shouts, and Market Street waits until you feel ready for it.

Honest, whichever centre

Mitchelstown or Clonmel, we tell you plainly when you are ready to test. Until you are, you hear what is missing and how the next lessons will fix it.

Manual, automatic, code 78

You can learn in either kind of car. A manual licence covers both kinds of car, while an automatic pass is limited to automatics by code 78.

Your preferences, heard

Tell us when you enquire if a female instructor would suit you, or if there is anything else we should know. It helps us send the right instructor to Clogheen.

Manual driving lessons Clogheen

Manual lessons in Clogheen start near your pick-up with the controls, and move on to junctions, roundabouts and reversing when moving off feels natural. Convent Road and Lower Main Street are early drives. Market Street and Mill Road follow as your planning and speed control improve, and later lessons head further out. Your instructor talks you through what went well at the end of each hour. In the last lessons, the focus shifts to the area around Mitchelstown or Clonmel.

Automatic driving lessons Clogheen

Automatic driving lessons in Clogheen suit learners who find a clutch and gears hard to juggle at first. The car does the gear changes, and you get on with the driving. The test is the same, though an automatic pass gives a licence marked code 78, for automatic cars only, while a manual pass covers both. Say so early, since automatic instructors are matched to each town separately.

EDT lessons in Clogheen

Twelve EDT lessons stand between a learner permit and the driving test, and each must be taught by an Approved Driving Instructor. Each one begins with a pick-up in Clogheen and ends with your instructor's signature in the logbook you keep.

Each lesson in the course builds on the last, so there is nothing to swot up beforehand. If you hold a licence from certain countries, you may need only six, so mention it when you enquire. The 12 manual lessons come to €587.95.

Getting ready for the test

Two test centres, 25 minutes each

From Clogheen, Mitchelstown in County Cork is 20.9 km by road and Clonmel 22.2 km, and both take about 25 minutes. That gives you two near choices, so check both for dates. Tipperary town, about 35 minutes away, and Dungarvan, about 45, are further options. Once you choose, the last lessons are spent in its area.

Shortly before your test date, you have a pretest: one hour near the centre you booked, and the car to sit the test in. The manual version, hour and car together, is €183.63. On test day, you drive the car you learned in. Book it through the form or on 021 2355558.

Learning in Clogheen

Clogheen lessons on the road

The first lesson keeps to the area near your pick-up while you learn the car. After that come Convent Road and Lower Main Street, and later Market Street and Mill Road. Once you hold a steady speed, the lessons head further out of Clogheen.

If home does not suit as a pick-up point, Saint Paul's Community Centre is our suggestion, though work is fine too. Agree it with us when you book, and the drop-off is the same point unless you ask for another one in advance.

Two of our nearest towns are Ardfinnan and Cahir, 8.8 km and 11.9 km from Clogheen in a straight line. Lismore, over the Waterford border, is another. Learners there start their lessons from their own town, at the same price as here.

The EDT: a guide

Keep your logbook with your learner permit, and hand it to your instructor at the end of each EDT lesson in Clogheen for a signature. When all 12 entries are signed, you can apply for Mitchelstown or Clonmel once your instructor agrees you are ready, and we plan the pretest with you.

Clogheen questions

A few good questions

Is Mitchelstown or Clonmel better from Clogheen?

They are much the same: both about 25 minutes by road, Mitchelstown at 20.9 km and Clonmel at 22.2 km. The earlier suitable date is usually the deciding factor, and we prepare you for either.

What if home is not a good place to be collected?

Then choose Saint Paul's Community Centre or your workplace instead. We agree the point when you book, and your instructor meets you there and brings you back at the end of the hour.

Can I sit my test in Clonmel if I learn in Clogheen?

Yes. Clonmel is about 25 minutes away by road, the same as Mitchelstown, and you can apply to either. Your last lessons and pretest then focus on the area around the centre you chose.

When can I book a driving instructor in Clogheen?

As soon as you hold a learner permit, which the NDLS issues after you pass the theory test. Send the form or call 021 2355558, and we arrange your first lesson from your chosen pick-up point.
