EDT, or Essential Driver Training, is 12 lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor, and you must finish it before the test. Your logbook gets a signature for each one. In Tallow, every one can start at the Spar on Convent Street, at home or at work.
Some foreign licence holders qualify for a reduced six-lesson course, so tell us which licence you hold. In a manual, the full course comes to €587.95. You can pay online or by phone, and gift vouchers for 1, 3, 6 or 12 lessons are available.

Getting ready for the test
Three test centres from Tallow
Of the centres, Dungarvan is nearest to Tallow, at 33.6 km and about 30 minutes by road. Mitchelstown is about 35 minutes away and Wilton in Cork about 45, while Clonmel takes about 55. With three centres this close together in time, you can book whichever has the earliest date that suits.
The pretest is a one-hour lesson in the area around your chosen centre, shortly before the test, and it includes car hire for the test. The car you are tested in is the one you practised in. For a manual, pretest plus car hire is €183.63. It can be booked online or by phone.

Learning in Tallow
Tallow roads, then the longer drives
Early on, lessons stay near your pick-up point until the car feels natural. West Street and Convent Street come next, then Mill Road for longer stretches. Because every test centre is at least 30 minutes away, later lessons build up the longer drives gradually before your pretest.
The Spar on Convent Street is the meeting point we name for Tallow, simple to agree if home is awkward. Home, school or work can be agreed instead. You are dropped back at the end of the hour, and the pick-up never adds to the price.
Lismore is 7.0 km from Tallow in a straight line, and we teach there as well. Cappoquin is on our list too, and so is Fermoy in County Cork. If you work in Lismore or Fermoy, you can be collected from work.

After twelve signatures the course is done. Whether you are ready for Dungarvan, Mitchelstown or Wilton is judged separately, and your instructor tells you honestly.
