Driving lessons Lismore
Lismore lessons, how they run
With our driving lessons in Lismore, an Approved Driving Instructor collects you at an agreed point, teaches you for an hour, and is honest about how near you are to the test.
School gate pick-up
Blackwater Community School can be where each lesson starts, or home or work if that suits you better. Collecting you and dropping you back costs nothing extra.
Your teacher is an ADI
Every lesson is with an Approved Driving Instructor, in a car with dual controls. North Mall and Main Street come in once moving off feels easy.
Nerves are welcome
Our lessons stay calm, and nobody raises their voice. If you are anxious, the pace drops and each skill gets the time it needs.
No rush to Dungarvan
Your instructor tells you honestly when you are ready for the test at Dungarvan, and what is missing if you are not. Extra hours are never pushed.
Licence and gearbox
Pass in a manual and you can drive either kind of car. Pass in an automatic and your licence carries code 78, so you are limited to automatics.
Choose what suits you
If a female instructor would help you relax, ask when you enquire. Anything else that matters to you is worth mentioning before the first lesson.

Manual driving lessons Lismore
Manual lessons from Lismore open with clutch, gears and pulling away smoothly near your pick-up point. North Mall and Main Street come next, where junctions, signals and steady speeds are the focus. Mayfield Road and Deerpark Road follow as your control improves. Manoeuvres are brought in individually. Later lessons head toward Dungarvan, so the area around the test centre is familiar before the pretest. Your instructor tells you plainly when your driving reaches test standard.

Automatic driving lessons Lismore
Automatic driving lessons in Lismore let the car change gear for you, so your attention can stay on observation and planning. Some learners find the first few hours easier that way. Think about the licence, though. An automatic pass carries code 78, which means automatic cars only, and a manual pass covers both. Instructor times vary by town, so we confirm the automatic car and instructor for Lismore when you enquire.

Getting ready for the test
Lismore to the test centre
Your nearest centre from Lismore is Dungarvan, 24.5 km and about 25 minutes by road. Mitchelstown is next at about 40 minutes, quicker than Clonmel at about 50, and Tipperary town is about 60. If Dungarvan has no date that suits, Mitchelstown is the sensible second choice, and your later lessons can move there.
Just before the test comes the pretest: an hour around your test centre, with car hire for the test thrown in. That way, you take the test in the car you have practised in. An automatic pretest with car hire is €193.81. You can book and pay online or by phone.

EDT and the test
The EDT: a guide
Your logbook is the record of the 12 EDT lessons, each signed by your instructor once it is done. Bring it to every lesson. A full logbook means EDT is done. Being ready for the Dungarvan test is a separate matter, and your instructor tells you honestly when you get there.

Lismore questions
A few good questions
Blackwater Community School: can my lesson start there?
Yes. Agree the school as your pick-up point when you book. Your instructor meets you there at the start of the hour, and you can be dropped home or back at school, with no extra charge.
Is Mitchelstown a good alternative to Dungarvan for the test?
It can be. From Lismore, Mitchelstown is about 40 minutes by road, against about 25 for Dungarvan and about 50 for Clonmel. If it has an earlier date, your pretest moves to the area around it.
Do you teach in Cappoquin and Tallow as well?
Yes. We teach in both, each with an agreed pick-up point and the same prices as Lismore. Tell us your town when you enquire, and we match you with an instructor for it.
What is the first step to book a driving instructor in Lismore?
Pass the theory test, then apply to the NDLS for your learner permit. Once it arrives, fill in the form or call 021 2355558, and we match you with an instructor for Lismore.
