Driving lessonsRoscrea
Meet your instructor at Roscrea Shopping Centre on Castle Street, or be collected from home or work. Nenagh, about 25 minutes away by road, is the quickest test centre to reach.
Roscrea lessons, Nenagh or Thurles
If you are weighing up a driving school in Roscrea, ask where lessons begin and who teaches them. Ours begin at a pick-up point you agree, with an Approved Driving Instructor in a dual-controlled car.
Pick-up at the shopping centre
Roscrea Shopping Centre on Castle Street can be your agreed meeting point, or we come to your home or work. Pick-up never costs extra.
Two sets of brakes
With an Approved Driving Instructor beside you and dual controls in the car, your first drives along Limerick Street have backup on the passenger side.
No pressure behind the wheel
Nervous learners set their own pace. Monastery Road and the faster roads come only when you are ready, and your instructor stays calm throughout.
Readiness, judged honestly
We tell you plainly when you are ready for Nenagh or Thurles, and what is missing if you are not. You book the lessons you need, and stop there.
Manual or automatic in Roscrea
We teach both. An automatic pass gives a licence with code 78, for automatic cars only, while a manual pass covers both.
What would make it easier
Before we match you, tell us what would help: a female instructor, a slower start, anything at all. It shapes who teaches you in Roscrea.

Manual driving lessons Roscrea
Your manual lessons in Roscrea begin near your pick-up with the clutch, gears and steering, until moving off and stopping are second nature. Then you add junctions, roundabouts and the reversing exercises. Limerick Street and Castle Street come into the early drives, with Monastery Road and Convent Road as your speed and planning improve. Near the end, your instructor takes you into the area around Nenagh or Thurles, whichever you booked, so the roads there are not new.
Ask about manual lessons ↗Automatic driving lessons Roscrea
Automatic driving lessons in Roscrea mean no clutch, so the first hours go on observation and road position rather than gears. You sit exactly the same test. Your licence afterwards is not: an automatic pass carries code 78, so you may drive automatic cars only, while a manual pass covers both. Tell us when you enquire, and we find an automatic instructor who can collect you in Roscrea.

Roscrea lesson prices
Roscrea learners pay the same as learners in Templemore or Cloughjordan, and the pick-up is counted in every price.
EDT lessons in Roscrea
On a learner permit, the test comes after Essential Driver Training: 12 lessons, each with an Approved Driving Instructor and each recorded in your logbook. From Roscrea, every one starts at the point we agreed with you for your pick-up.
Your instructor decides what each EDT lesson covers, and you get on with the driving. A licence from some other countries may mean six lessons rather than 12. In a manual car, the full course is €587.95 with every pick-up included.
The EDT guide ↗Nenagh, Thurles and the further centres
Nenagh is 32.5 km from Roscrea by road and about 25 minutes, which makes it quicker than Thurles, 34.1 km and about 35 minutes, despite the similar distance. Beyond those two, Woodview in Limerick takes about 55 minutes and Tipperary town about 70. Start with Nenagh or Thurles when you apply, and we prepare you for whichever you pick.
Your pretest is an hour in the area around your chosen centre shortly before the test, with car hire for the test included. The automatic pretest package costs €193.81. You drive the same car on test day as in your lessons, and the area around the centre is fresh in your mind. To book it, call 021 2355558.
Roscrea roads, from Castle Street
The first lesson keeps close to your pick-up while you learn the controls. Limerick Street and Castle Street come next, then Monastery Road and Convent Road as you settle. Each hour adds one new skill, and your instructor tells you what it will be before you start.
Roscrea Shopping Centre on Castle Street suits learners who find it easier than home as a pick-up point. Work is fine too. Pick it when you book, and the drop-off is the same point unless you ask us otherwise in advance.
Cloughjordan is 15.9 km from Roscrea in a straight line and Templemore 18.0 km, and lessons are available in each. Borrisokane is covered too, 22.9 km away. Learners there are met in their own town, with the same price list as here.

The EDT: a guide
Bring your logbook and learner permit to every lesson in Roscrea. Your instructor signs the logbook before you leave the car, so all 12 EDT lessons are on record. When the course is complete and your driving is ready, we look at Nenagh and Thurles dates and book your pretest.
The EDT guide ↗ Preparing for the test ↗A few good questions
Which centre should I apply to from Roscrea?
Nenagh is the quicker drive, about 25 minutes by road, and Thurles about 35. Both are good choices, so the date on offer usually decides. Your pretest and final lessons are then planned around that centre.
Is there a meeting point in town?
Yes. You can be collected at Roscrea Shopping Centre on Castle Street, or at home or work. Your instructor drops you back at the same point when the hour ends, unless you arranged otherwise.
Can I spread lessons out to suit my week?
Yes. We agree lesson times with you, based on when your instructor can come to Roscrea. Booking single lessons at €53.27 each, or the EDT course as one ticket, works either way.
Can I learn if I have driven before but never passed?
Yes. Tell us what you have done so far when you enquire. If you hold a learner permit, you still complete the 12 EDT lessons, and your instructor starts from where your driving actually is.
