Driving lessons Thurles
Thurles lessons near the test centre
With the test centre in town, choosing a driving school in Thurles comes down to the teaching. Ours is one hour at a time with an Approved Driving Instructor, from a pick-up point you agree.
Met at Thurles station
Step off the train and into the lesson: Thurles station is a pick-up point we can agree. For anyone else it is home or work, always included in the price.
Two brakes in the car
Lessons are with an Approved Driving Instructor in a dual-controlled car, from your first careful drive on Parnell Street to the last one before the test.
Calm in town
Nobody hurries a nervous learner here. Liberty Square waits until you are comfortable, and your instructor keeps every hour calm and clear.
Honest about the Thurles test
We tell you honestly when your driving is ready for the test, whether at Thurles or Clonmel. If it is not, you hear what needs work, and we plan the next lessons around it.
Automatic or manual
Learning in an automatic is simpler on the controls, but the licence that follows carries code 78. A manual licence covers both kinds of car.
Preferences, noted
A female instructor, a quieter start, help with nerves: tell us what you would like when you enquire. We take it into account when we choose your instructor.

Manual driving lessons Thurles
Manual lessons in Thurles begin near your pick-up point with the clutch, gears and smooth stopping. Junctions and roundabouts come next, then the reversing exercises. Parnell Street and Fianna Road are early drives, with Liberty Square and Jimmy Doyle Road following as your observation sharpens. Because the test centre is 1.3 km away by road, your last lessons can be spent almost entirely in its area, with very little of the hour lost to travel.

Automatic driving lessons Thurles
Automatic driving lessons in Thurles take the clutch pedal away altogether. Your hands stay on the wheel and your eyes on the road. Nothing changes about the test itself. The licence does change: code 78 follows an automatic pass and restricts you to automatics. Manual passes carry no such restriction. Ask when you enquire, and we tell you which automatic instructor can take you.

EDT lessons in Thurles
If you are learning on a permit, the RSA's Essential Driver Training comes first: 12 lessons, each taught by an Approved Driving Instructor. We collect you in Thurles for every one, and your logbook is signed before you get out.
Because EDT is the opening stretch of your lessons, nothing about it needs separate study. Holders of some foreign licences need only six lessons. The automatic course is €659.24, and the manual course has its own ticket on this page too.

Getting ready for the test
A test centre in Thurles
Your test can be in town: the Thurles centre is just 1.3 km by road, about 5 minutes. That short distance means your last lessons are spent where the test is, not getting there. If you want another centre, Clonmel is about 35 minutes away, and Nenagh and Tipperary town about 40 minutes each.
The pretest is an hour in the area around the centre, booked for shortly before your test, with car hire for the test included. An automatic pretest, car included, is €193.81. On the day, you sit the test in the car you learned in. Book it on 021 2355558 once your date is set.

Learning in Thurles
Parnell Street to Liberty Square
Lessons begin near your pick-up point, so the controls have your full attention. Parnell Street and Fianna Road are first, with Liberty Square added when junctions start to feel natural. Jimmy Doyle Road follows, and later lessons travel further out for practice at higher speeds.
Commuters can be met at Thurles station, while others choose home or work. Agree the point when you book, and your instructor drops you back there, or at another agreed point, when the hour is up, at no extra cost.
Three of our towns are close by: Holycross, 5.8 km away in a straight line, Littleton, 6.4 km, and Two-Mile Borris, 6.5 km. Learners there are met in their own town, and the Thurles centre suits them for the test as well.

Yes, Thurles station can be your agreed pick-up point, and the hour begins when you get off the train. You can be dropped back at the station or taken home at the end of the hour.

Yes. The 12-lesson course is priced the same in every town we teach in, pick-up included. A single manual lesson is €53.27, and the course prices are on the tickets.
