Driving lessons Templemore
Templemore lessons and the Thurles test
Driving lessons in Templemore are taught one hour at a time by an Approved Driving Instructor, in a dual-controlled car, from a pick-up point you agree. Thurles, the closest centre, is the one we prepare you for unless you choose otherwise.
Collected after school
When classes end, Our Lady's Secondary School can be your agreed pick-up point. Learners who have left school are collected at home or work instead, and it never costs extra.
Approved ADI, dual-controlled
Your Approved Driving Instructor has a brake on the passenger side, so your first drives along Mary Street and Church Avenue are supported.
Steady pace
If you are nervous, the lesson slows down to suit you. Your instructor stays calm, and Lacey Avenue is held back until you feel ready for it.
Ready for Thurles, honestly
We tell you plainly when you are ready for the Thurles test. If you are not, we name the gap and plan the lessons to close it.
Either gearbox
Lessons run in manual and automatic cars. Pass in an automatic and code 78 on your licence keeps you to automatics, while a manual pass means both are yours.
Choosing your instructor
When you enquire, a female instructor is yours to ask for, and so is anything else that would help. It all feeds into the match we make for Templemore.

Manual driving lessons Templemore
Manual lessons in Templemore open with the clutch, gears and stopping smoothly near your pick-up point. Junctions, roundabouts and reversing come next, each practised until it holds. Mary Street and Church Avenue are early drives, then Bank Street and Lacey Avenue as your speed control and observation improve. Later lessons head out toward the Thurles centre, about 15 minutes away, so you meet the roads near it well before test day.

Learn in an automatic
Automatic driving lessons Templemore
Automatic driving lessons in Templemore leave out the clutch and gear changes, which lets you focus on the road from your very first hour. The test is exactly the same. The licence after an automatic pass carries code 78, so you may drive automatic cars only, while a manual pass covers both. Mention an automatic when you enquire, and we confirm who can teach you in Templemore.

EDT lessons in Templemore
The driving test is only open to learner permit holders once they have done 12 Essential Driver Training lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor. In Templemore, each starts at your agreed pick-up point, and your instructor signs your logbook as the lesson closes.
EDT needs no separate study, since every lesson builds on the one before. A licence from some countries brings the course down to six. An automatic EDT course costs €659.24, and the manual course is on its own ticket on this page.

Thurles and the further options
Thurles is 15.4 km from Templemore by road, about 15 minutes, and it is the obvious centre to aim for. Nenagh is about 35 minutes away, and Tipperary town and Clonmel are both about 50, so they suit only if Thurles has no date for you. We plan your pretest for the one you book.
Shortly before the test, you get the pretest: an hour in the area around your centre, plus the car you will test in. €183.63 pays for the manual version. On the day, the car and the roads near the centre are both familiar. Book it through the form or by phone once you have a date.

Learning in Templemore
From Mary Street outwards
The first hour stays close to your pick-up, with time to learn the controls. Mary Street and Church Avenue come in early, then Bank Street, and Lacey Avenue follows when you can hold a steady speed, and later lessons travel toward Thurles.
Students can be met at Our Lady's Secondary School after class. For everyone else it is home or work, agreed when you book. Your instructor drops you back at the same point, or at another agreed one if your day needs it.
Our nearest other towns are Borrisoleigh, 10.0 km away in a straight line, and Thurles, 12.8 km. We cover both, and Two-Mile Borris as well, each with a pick-up point in the learner's own town and the same prices as here in Templemore.

EDT and the test
The EDT: a guide
After each EDT lesson in Templemore, hand your logbook to your instructor for a signature. The twelfth signature finishes the course. Keep the logbook with your permit between lessons. From there, the question is whether you are ready for Thurles, and your instructor gives you a straight answer before you book.

Templemore questions
A few good questions
How long does it take to get to Thurles test centre?
About 15 minutes by road from Templemore, a 15.4 km drive. Your final lessons and pretest can therefore spend most of the hour in the area around the centre, not on the way there.
Do you collect students after school in Templemore?
Yes, at Our Lady's Secondary School, if that is your agreed pick-up point. Times are agreed when you book, and you can be dropped back at the school or at home afterwards.
Could I test in Nenagh instead of Thurles?
Yes. Nenagh is about 35 minutes from Templemore by road, against about 15 for Thurles. If Nenagh has the earlier date, apply there, and we plan your final lessons and pretest for its area.
What should I have ready before calling a driving instructor in Templemore?
Your learner permit, which the NDLS issues after you pass the theory test, and an idea of where you would like to be collected. Then send the form or call 021 2355558, and we do the rest.
