Manual driving lessons Passage East
Manual lessons in Passage East begin with the controls: clutch, gears and moving off cleanly from your pick-up point. Green Road and The Quay come next, where you practise junctions, mirrors and signals until they are routine. Passage Road is added for longer drives. Then manoeuvres, each in turn. In the final lessons you drive toward Waterford city and the area around its test centre. Your instructor tells you directly when you are at test standard.

Automatic driving lessons Passage East
Automatic driving lessons in Passage East let you learn without managing a clutch, so the early hours can feel less crowded. You still cover every skill the test asks for, and you still prepare for the Waterford centre. Where it differs is the licence. An automatic pass gives you code 78, which restricts you to automatic cars, and a manual pass lets you drive both. Your car and instructor for Passage East are confirmed once you enquire.

No learner permit holder can sit the driving test without first completing Essential Driver Training. You complete 12 lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor, and each is signed off in your logbook. From Passage East, every one starts at the point you agreed, such as home or Passage East National School.
Some foreign licence holders can do a reduced course of six lessons, so tell us about your licence when you get in touch. All twelve lessons in a manual cost €587.95. Gift vouchers for 1, 3, 6 or 12 lessons, in either car, are also available.

Getting ready for the test
Your test in Waterford
The Waterford test centre is the nearest to Passage East, 14.6 km and about 15 minutes by road. Dungarvan is about 55 minutes away, Clonmel about 65 and Tipperary town about 95, so Waterford is the realistic choice. Your later lessons build toward the area around it. If another date suits better, we can plan for that centre instead.
The pretest is a one-hour lesson in the area around the Waterford centre, shortly before your test, with car hire for the test included. On the day you drive the car you learned in. For a manual, the pretest with car hire costs €183.63, and you can book it online or by phone.

Learning in Passage East
Passage East roads, then Waterford
Your first lessons stay near your pick-up point while you get to know the car. Once moving off and stopping are smooth, you take on Green Road and The Quay too. Passage Road comes later, for longer drives. The last lessons head toward Waterford city, so the test centre area is familiar.
Passage East National School is the landmark we name for meeting, if your home is hard to find. Your home, your school or your workplace will do as well. You are dropped back after the hour, at the same point or another one agreed, and the pick-up is included.
We also teach in Dunmore East and Tramore, with agreed pick-up points and the same prices. It is 10.2 km to Dunmore East as a straight line. Waterford city is 9.8 km away, so if you work there, you can be collected from work.

Your EDT logbook gets a signature from your instructor after each lesson, and you take it home with you. Bring it back every time. Over 12 lessons, it becomes the record of your course. Your readiness for the Waterford test is judged separately, and honestly, by your instructor, without extra hours sold.

A few good questions
How quickly can I get from Passage East to the Waterford centre?
Roughly 15 minutes, over 14.6 km of road. It is the closest centre by a long way, with Dungarvan about 55 minutes away. Your pretest takes place in the area around the Waterford centre.
Can I be met at Passage East National School?
Yes. If it is easier to find than your home, agree it as your meeting point. Your instructor collects you there at the start of the lesson, and the pick-up is included in the price.
Will a driving instructor in Passage East collect me from work in Waterford city?
Yes, as long as we agree it as the pick-up point. The lesson can start at work and end at home in Passage East. Collecting you is part of the lesson price at whichever point we agree.
Can I switch to automatic lessons later?
You can ask at any point. We check that an automatic car and instructor are free for Passage East. Bear in mind that an automatic pass means code 78 on your licence, so automatic cars only.
