Driving lessons Carrick-on-Suir
Carrick-on-Suir lessons, two test options
Our driving lessons in Carrick-on-Suir are one hour each, with an Approved Driving Instructor and a dual-controlled car. Because two counties' test centres are within reach, we prepare you for whichever one gives you the date you want.
Collected from Comeragh College
After class, Comeragh College can be your agreed pick-up point. If you have finished school, home or work does the same job, and the collection costs nothing extra.
Your ADI, a second brake
Your teacher is always an Approved Driving Instructor, and the car always has dual controls. That is true from your first slow drive on New Street to the hours near your test centre.
Calm, never rushed
Nervous learners take each step when they are ready. Your instructor stays calm, and Sean Kelly Square and the other junctions come in only when moving off feels easy.
An honest call on your test
Whether you test in Clonmel or at the Waterford centre, we tell you plainly when you are ready. If you are not, we explain what is missing.
Manual or automatic, as you prefer
Both are taught. An automatic pass gives a licence marked code 78, for automatic cars only, and a manual pass covers both kinds.
Your instructor preferences
Some learners feel easier with a female instructor, and if that is you, say so when you enquire. Other preferences are welcome, and they guide the match.

Manual driving lessons Carrick-on-Suir
Manual lessons in Carrick-on-Suir start with the clutch, gear changes and smooth stops, close to your pick-up. Once those are steady, you move on to junctions, roundabouts and reversing. New Street and Chapel Street come into the early drives, then Sean Kelly Square and Bridge Street as your observation sharpens. Later lessons reach further out for practice at higher speeds. Near the end, your instructor takes you into the area around Clonmel or the Waterford centre, whichever you booked.

Automatic driving lessons Carrick-on-Suir
Choosing automatic driving lessons in Carrick-on-Suir means no clutch and no gear changes, so you can put everything into reading the road. You take the identical test. The licence is not: an automatic pass carries code 78, so you can drive automatic cars only, while a manual pass covers both. We check which automatic instructor can teach in Carrick-on-Suir when you first get in touch.

EDT lessons in Carrick-on-Suir
12EDT lessons6Reduced EDT
Before your driving test, a learner permit means 12 lessons of Essential Driver Training with an Approved Driving Instructor. We collect you in Carrick-on-Suir for each one, and your instructor signs the logbook before the lesson ends, so the record is always up to date.
EDT lessons are part of learning to drive, not extra homework, and your instructor plans what each covers. A licence from certain countries may cut EDT to six lessons. Taken in an automatic, the course costs €659.24 for the full 12.

Getting ready for the test
Two counties, two test centres
From Carrick-on-Suir, Clonmel is 24.6 km by road, about 25 minutes, and the Waterford centre in Waterford city is 30.4 km, about 30 minutes. Both are realistic, so check each for dates before you apply. Dungarvan, about 40 minutes away, is a third choice, and Tipperary town, about 55, a distant fourth.
Shortly before your test, the pretest gives you an hour in the area around the centre you booked, along with the car for the test. In a manual, the pretest and car together cost €183.63. You sit the test in the car you have learned in, after an hour on roads near the centre.

Learning in Carrick-on-Suir
Learning on Carrick-on-Suir roads
The first lesson stays near your pick-up point, giving you time to learn the controls. New Street and Chapel Street come early, then Sean Kelly Square once junctions feel natural. Bridge Street follows, and later the lessons travel further out of town as your speed and planning grow.
Comeragh College is where we can meet students straight from class. Anyone else is collected from home or work. Agree the point when you book, and your instructor drops you back there, or at another agreed point, at no extra charge.
Portlaw in County Waterford is 9.2 km from Carrick-on-Suir in a straight line, and Kilsheelan 11.4 km. Lessons are available in both, and in Kilmacthomas too, each from a pick-up point in that town, at the same price as here.

EDT and the test
The EDT: a guide
Each EDT lesson in Carrick-on-Suir closes with your instructor signing your logbook. The book stays with you, along with your learner permit, and both come to every lesson. When the twelfth entry is signed, we look at Clonmel and Waterford dates together and plan your pretest for the centre you pick.

Carrick-on-Suir questions
A few good questions
Should I book Clonmel or the Waterford centre?
Either works. Clonmel is about 25 minutes from Carrick-on-Suir by road and the Waterford centre about 30, so the earlier suitable date usually decides. Your pretest is then planned for that centre.
Do you meet students outside Comeragh College?
Yes, if the college is your agreed pick-up point. We confirm lesson times with you when you enquire, since they depend on the instructor. Afterwards you can be dropped back at the college or at home.
Are lessons in Carrick-on-Suir priced differently from Waterford?
No. The price list does not change at the county line: a manual hour is €53.27 in Carrick-on-Suir, in Waterford city and in every other town we cover. Pick-up is included everywhere.
How do I get started with a driving instructor in Carrick-on-Suir?
Get your learner permit first, which the NDLS issues once you pass the theory test. Then call 021 2355558 or send the form with your pick-up point, and we arrange an Approved Driving Instructor to collect you.
