Driving lessons Ennis
How lessons work in Ennis
Driving lessons in Ennis start from an agreed point such as Ennis bus station and run for one hour each. Nervous or confident, you move at your own speed until you are ready to test.
Collected at an agreed point
The price of each lesson already covers pick-up and drop-off in Ennis. Choose home, college, work or Ennis bus station, and your instructor will be there at the agreed time.
Taught by an approved instructor
An Approved Driving Instructor sits beside you in a dual-controlled car for every hour. As you progress from Carmody Street to Kilrush Road, that support stays the same.
Patient, never rushed
Raised voices have no place in our lessons. A nervous learner moves on to the next skill only once the last one feels solid.
Straight talk before the test
Before you book the Ennis centre or Shannon, you get an honest view of whether you are ready. Where there is a gap, it gets named, so you practise that and nothing extra.
Manual and automatic cars
You can learn in either car for EDT and the pretest, whether you test in Ennis or Shannon. An automatic pass puts code 78 on your licence, meaning automatics only.
Who teaches you matters
When you enquire, say what you need from an instructor, including a female instructor if you prefer. We take that into account before matching you for lessons from Ennis bus station or home.

Manual driving lessons Ennis
Control comes first in a manual: the clutch, the biting point and pulling away smoothly. Once that feels natural, Carmody Street and O'Connell Street come into your lessons. Kilrush Road follows as your confidence grows and the drives get longer. From there the work is about judgement, such as reading other drivers and choosing your gap. Your instructor steps back a little more each time. You hear plainly when your driving reaches test standard, with no padding added.

Automatic driving lessons Ennis
If the clutch is what puts you off, automatic driving lessons in Ennis take it out of the picture. Everything else stays the same, from the agreed pick-up to the steady build toward test standard. Before choosing, know that a test passed in an automatic gives a licence with code 78, for automatic cars only. A manual pass, by contrast, lets you drive either kind. We check that an automatic car is free in Ennis as soon as you get in touch.

EDT lessons in Ennis
After the learner permit and before a test at the Ennis centre, you complete Essential Driver Training. That is 12 lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor, each one signed off in your logbook before the next. We can collect you for each from home, college or Ennis bus station.
The logbook works the same way in a manual or an automatic car. The 12-lesson course costs €587.95 in a manual and €659.24 in an automatic, with pick-up in Ennis each time. Your instructor will not rush you through them to fill the logbook.

Getting ready for the test
Testing in Ennis or Shannon
Test day is a short trip, since the Ennis centre is 1.1 km and about 5 minutes by road. If you would rather an earlier date, Shannon is about 20 minutes away and may have one. The Woodview centre is about 30 minutes, and Kilrush about 40. Whichever you book, your last lessons can shift to that centre's area.
Once your date is set, book the pretest online or by phone. Shortly before the test, you drive for one hour in the area around the Ennis centre. If you booked Shannon, the hour is spent there instead. You then take the test in your instructor's car, which is hired to you as part of the pretest.

Learning in Ennis
Ennis roads, step by step
Early lessons keep things simple while you learn the car, close to where we collect you. As you progress, lessons widen to take in Clon Road alongside Kilrush Road. The pace stays yours throughout. The centre is close enough that late lessons reach its area quickly.
You can be collected at Ennis bus station if home is not convenient. College or work suit just as well. The lesson price covers the pick-up, and you are dropped at the same place or another point agreed with your instructor.
If you live in Quin, Crusheen or Corofin, we teach there too and agree a pick-up point close to home. Quin is the closest of them, 8.3 km away in a straight line. Lessons there work exactly as they do in Ennis, with agreed pick-up and one price list.

EDT and the test
The EDT: a guide
A fresh signature goes into your logbook after every EDT lesson, so you can see the course building up. Over 12 lessons the gaps in your driving shrink as the pages fill up. Keep it safe between lessons, because every page counts. With the final signature in, your attention can turn to the Ennis centre.

Ennis questions
A few good questions
Can I meet my instructor at Ennis bus station?
You can. Choose it as your pick-up point when you book, and no charge is added for it. Home, college or work are fine too, if one of those suits your day better.
I have a foreign licence. Do I need all 12 EDT lessons?
Not always. Holders of some foreign licences qualify for a reduced course of six lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor. Tell us which licence you hold when you get in touch, and we can plan the right course from Ennis.
What do I need before my first lesson in Ennis?
A theory test pass and a learner permit from the NDLS come first. With both in hand, fill in the form on this page or call 021 2355558. We then match you with an instructor who can collect you in Ennis.
Will my driving instructor in Ennis tell me if I am not ready?
Yes, plainly. If something is missing, such as a manoeuvre that is not yet reliable, your instructor names it and you work on that. If you are ready for the Ennis centre or Shannon, you hear that too, without extra hours being sold.
