Driving lessons Ennistymon
Ennistymon lessons, what you get
A driving school in Ennistymon should come to you. Ours starts each one-hour lesson at your agreed point, teaches at your speed and prepares you for a test in Ennis.
Pick-up at the school gate
Ennistymon Community School can be your pick-up point, or home or work if you prefer. Being collected and dropped back is included in what you pay for each lesson.
Taught by an ADI
Your teacher is an Approved Driving Instructor, approved by the RSA, in a car fitted with dual controls. Main Street and Station Road come once you feel in control.
Calm, whatever your nerves
We never raise our voices. Nervous learners set the pace, and nothing new is added until the last skill feels comfortable.
The truth about readiness
Your instructor tells you when you are ready to test in Ennis, and tells you what is missing when you are not. You will not be sold hours you do not need.
Manual or automatic cars
Both are taught, for EDT and the pretest alike. Passing in an automatic gives you a licence with code 78, so only automatics, while a manual pass covers both.
Your preferences count
Tell us when you enquire if you would rather have a female instructor, or anything else that matters to you. We take it into account before your first lesson.

Manual driving lessons Ennistymon
Manual lessons in Ennistymon start with control: the clutch, the gears and moving off without rolling back. Once that is steady, you practise on Station Road and Main Street, planning each junction well ahead. Parliament Street comes into later lessons. Manoeuvres and longer drives fill the middle of the course. The last stage builds toward the Ennis centre, about 25 minutes away, so that area is familiar. Once your driving reaches test standard, your instructor says so.

Learn in an automatic
Automatic driving lessons Ennistymon
With automatic driving lessons in Ennistymon, there is no clutch or gear lever to think about, so you can concentrate on observation and timing. Some learners find that settles their nerves. Think about the licence before you choose: an automatic pass carries code 78 and covers automatic cars only, but a manual pass lets you drive both. Instructor times vary by town, so we confirm an automatic car for Ennistymon when you enquire.

EDT lessons in Ennistymon
12EDT lessons6Reduced EDT
Essential Driver Training is the course you complete on a learner permit before the test. You do 12 lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor and get each one signed in a logbook. From Ennistymon, the lessons can start at the school gate if that is the point you agree.
Holders of some foreign licences may need only a reduced six-lesson course, so tell us if that applies to you. A full manual EDT course costs €587.95. Lessons are never rushed to get through the book faster, because each one covers a skill you will use on test day.

Getting ready for the test
Your test from Ennistymon
The Ennis test centre is 27.4 km from Ennistymon, about 25 minutes by road, and it is the closest. Shannon is about 40 minutes away, Kilrush about 45 and Woodview in Limerick about 55. If a further centre offers an earlier date, your final lessons and pretest can move to its area instead.
The pretest is a one-hour lesson in the area around your test centre, booked shortly before the test. It includes car hire, so you take the test in the car you have practised in. In a manual, the pretest with car hire costs €183.63. Book it like any other lesson, online or by phone.

Learning in Ennistymon
Ennistymon streets and beyond
You start close to your pick-up point while the car becomes familiar. Station Road and Main Street come next, with signals and mirror checks becoming routine. Parliament Street follows once your steering and speed are reliable. Later lessons head out toward Ennis to get you used to longer drives.
Ennistymon Community School is the one meeting point we name here, handy if you are still at school. Home and work are equally fine. After the hour you are dropped back at the same point, or at another one agreed beforehand, and the pick-up is never charged as an extra.
Lahinch and Lisdoonvarna are near Ennistymon, and we teach in both. Lahinch is just 3.6 km away in a straight line. If you live in Ennistymon but work in Lahinch, either town can be your pick-up point. The prices are the same in all three towns.

EDT and the test
The EDT: a guide
Each EDT lesson ends with a signature in your logbook, so the course record builds as you go. Keep the book safe and bring it every time. Twelve signed lessons complete the course. Being ready for Ennis is judged separately, by your instructor, who tells you honestly either way and never stretches the course to sell more hours.

Ennistymon questions
A few good questions
Can my instructor collect me from Ennistymon Community School?
Yes. Name the school as your pick-up point when you book, and your instructor meets you there. You can be dropped home afterwards, or back at school, with no charge added for either.
Which centre would an Ennistymon learner test at first?
Ennis is the nearest, 27.4 km and about 25 minutes by road. Shannon is about 40 minutes away. Your last lessons and the pretest take place in the area around the centre you choose.
Do I need driving lessons in Ennistymon if I already drive a bit?
If you are on a learner permit, you still need the 12 EDT lessons before your test. Your instructor will soon see what you can already do, and spend the time on what you cannot.
Can I switch from manual to automatic lessons partway?
You can ask. We check whether an automatic car and instructor are free for Ennistymon. Keep in mind that passing in an automatic adds code 78 to your licence, limiting you to automatic cars.
