EDT lessons in Kilmihil
Every learner permit holder completes Essential Driver Training before the driving test. It is 12 lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor, and your logbook is signed after each one. We pick you up in Kilmihil for each lesson, so you are not relying on anyone for lifts.

Getting ready for the test
Kilrush or Ennis from Kilmihil
Kilrush is the closest centre to Kilmihil, 14 km and about 15 minutes by road. Beyond it, Ennis takes about 25 minutes, Shannon about 40, and Woodview in Limerick about 55. Kilrush is the natural first choice, but if Ennis can offer an earlier date, your final lessons can move there instead.
Your pretest is a one-hour lesson in the area around your test centre, taken shortly before the test. It includes car hire, so you sit the test in the car that has been collecting you from home. For a manual, the package costs €183.63. You can book and pay for it online or by phone.

Learning in Kilmihil
From home to test standard
You start near home, getting used to the controls before anything else. As you become more confident, lessons widen out to more roads, and Goulbourne Bridge becomes part of the route. The last lessons head toward Kilrush or Ennis, depending on where you are testing.
In Kilmihil, your instructor collects you from home, or from school or work if you agree that instead. No landmark is needed. After the hour you are dropped back at the same point, and the pick-up never adds anything to the cost. If your plans change for one day, tell us beforehand and we can collect you somewhere else.
We teach in Kilrush and Milltown Malbay as well, on exactly the same terms. Kilrush is the nearer of the two at 14.3 km, measured in a straight line. If you work there, you could be collected from work and dropped home afterwards. Tell us which town when you book.

The EDT: a guide
The EDT logbook stays with you from your first lesson to your last. Your instructor signs it after each one, so you can see the course filling in. Twelve signatures complete it. Readiness for the test at Kilrush is a separate judgement, and your instructor gives it to you straight.
