Driving lessonsKilrush
The Kilrush test centre is about 5 minutes from wherever we collect you, so the area you practise in is the area you test in. Pick-up at an agreed point is part of every lesson.
Lessons close to the Kilrush centre
Our driving lessons in Kilrush are one hour long, taught by an Approved Driving Instructor in a dual-controlled car, and they start from home, school or work.
Picked up at school
Kilrush Community School can be your pick-up point, or home or work if that suits. You are collected and dropped back, and the lesson price covers both.
An instructor approved by the RSA
Every lesson is taught by an Approved Driving Instructor in a car with dual controls. You can start on Henry Street and Vandeleur Street with that safety net beside you.
Calm, unhurried teaching
Nobody raises their voice in our cars. If you are nervous, the pace slows, and each skill is repeated until it feels comfortable.
No extra hours sold
With the Kilrush centre so close, it is tempting to book early. We tell you honestly when you are ready, and what is missing if you are not yet.
Manual or automatic
Both are taught, and either can be used for the test at Kilrush or Ennis. An automatic pass adds code 78 to your licence, so automatics only, while a manual pass covers both.
Tell us your preferences
If you would rather learn with a female instructor, ask when you enquire. Mention anything else that would help you feel at ease as well.

Manual driving lessons Kilrush
Manual lessons in Kilrush begin with the clutch, the gears and moving away cleanly from your pick-up point. Henry Street and Vandeleur Street then become places to practise junctions, signals and steady speeds. Cooraclare Road comes in once you are ready for longer drives. Because the test centre is so close, many of the later lessons pass through its area without any extra travel. Your instructor tells you plainly when your driving has reached test standard.

Automatic driving lessons in Kilrush suit learners who want to concentrate on the road rather than the gearbox. The course runs the same way otherwise, with pick-up, EDT and a pretest near the Kilrush centre. Before choosing, know what the licence means. An automatic pass gives you code 78, for automatic cars only, while a manual pass covers both. When you enquire, we check that an automatic car and instructor are free for Kilrush.

EDT lessons in Kilrush
Essential Driver Training is required for every learner permit holder before the test. It consists of 12 lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor, each signed off in your logbook. From Kilrush Community School or home, each EDT lesson starts at the point you agreed.
Some foreign licence holders qualify for a reduced course of six lessons, so let us know if that might be you. The full 12-lesson course in an automatic costs €659.24. Spacing the lessons out a little helps each new skill stick.
The EDT guide ↗Testing at the Kilrush centre
The Kilrush test centre is just 1.5 km away by road, about 5 minutes, so test day needs no long drive. If you want a different centre, Ennis is about 40 minutes away, Shannon about 55 and Woodview in Limerick about 65. Kilrush is the natural pick unless a date elsewhere suits you better.
Shortly before the test, the pretest gives you one hour of driving around the Kilrush centre. Car hire for the test is included, so on the day you take it in the car you already know. The manual pretest package costs €183.63, and you can book it online or on 021 2355558.
Kilrush streets as you progress
The first lessons stay close to where we collect you while the car becomes familiar. Henry Street and Vandeleur Street follow, with junctions and signals to plan for. Cooraclare Road comes later, once you can hold a steady speed for longer. The test centre area is part of normal lessons here.
We name Kilrush Community School as our one meeting point, handy for students. Home or work is just as easy to arrange. After the hour your instructor drops you back at the same point, or another agreed one, and the pick-up is never charged extra.
Kilkee and Tarbert are nearby, and we teach in both on the same terms. Tarbert is 10.5 km from Kilrush in a straight line, and Kilkee 11.7 km. Learners there are collected at an agreed point and prepared for the Kilrush test as well.

The EDT: a guide
Your EDT logbook gets a signature after every lesson, so the course record builds week by week. Keep it safe and bring it each time. When all 12 lessons are signed, the course is complete. Being ready for the Kilrush test is judged separately, and your instructor tells you honestly when that point arrives.
The EDT guide ↗ Preparing for the test ↗A few good questions
How close is the Kilrush test centre?
Very close: 1.5 km by road, about 5 minutes. That means your later lessons can spend time in its area without any extra travel, and test day starts with a short drive.
Kilrush Community School is where I study. Can I be collected there?
Yes. Tell us the school is your pick-up point, and your instructor will be waiting there at the start of the lesson. You can be dropped home afterwards, or back at school, with no added charge.
How will a driving instructor in Kilrush judge when I am ready?
Yes. With the centre so near, booking early is tempting, but your instructor tells you honestly if something is missing. You work on that one thing, and you hear just as clearly when you are ready.
What do I need before booking?
A theory test pass and a learner permit from the NDLS. With those, fill in the form on this page or call 021 2355558. We match you with an instructor and agree your pick-up point in Kilrush.
