Why learners in Cratloe book us

Our driving lessons in Cratloe give you one hour behind the wheel each time, an Approved Driving Instructor beside you and honest advice on when to book the test.

Pick-up at your agreed point

Cratloe Community Hall, your house or your workplace can be where the lesson begins. The price you pay for the hour already includes collecting you and dropping you back.

A qualified instructor, always

You learn with an Approved Driving Instructor in a car with dual controls. That backup lets you build up to Old Cratloe Road without feeling rushed.

No shouting, ever

Lessons are calm, and nervous learners are welcome to go slowly. If one hour feels hard, the next goes back over it before anything new is added.

Straight talk before Woodview

Whether you book Woodview or Shannon, you are told plainly if you are ready. If you are not, we name the gap, and you work on that instead of extra hours.

Automatic is an option

Manual and automatic cars are both taught. An automatic pass puts code 78 on your licence, so you could drive automatics only, while a manual pass covers both.

Say what would help

Tell us about anything that would help when you enquire, including a preference for a female instructor. It shapes who we match you with for lessons from Cratloe.

Manual driving lessons Cratloe

On a manual course from Cratloe you start with clutch control, moving off and stopping smoothly near your pick-up point. Gallows Hill and Old Cratloe Road follow once that feels natural, with gear changes, junctions and mirror checks becoming habit. Later lessons add manoeuvres and longer drives. When you can handle a whole hour with few prompts, the Limerick to Shannon Dual Carriageway comes in so you are used to higher speeds before the test. We tell you when you are at test standard.

Automatic driving lessons Cratloe

If changing gear feels like one job too many, automatic driving lessons in Cratloe remove it. You still learn everything else, from observation to manoeuvres, and you can still choose Woodview or Shannon for the test. The difference is on your licence. Passing in an automatic gives you code 78, which allows automatic cars only, and a manual pass allows both. Automatic times vary by town, so we confirm one for Cratloe when you get in touch.

EDT lessons in Cratloe

Getting ready for the test

Woodview or Shannon from Cratloe

Two centres are about 10 minutes from Cratloe by road: Woodview in Limerick at 8.8 km and Shannon at 12.1 km. With the same drive to each, the earlier date is usually the one to take. Ennis, about 25 minutes away, is a third choice. Newcastle West is about 45 minutes.

Once your test is booked, the pretest gives you one hour in the area around that centre, shortly before the day. It also includes car hire for the test itself, so you sit it in the car you know. A manual pretest with car hire is €183.63, payable online or by phone.

Learning in Cratloe

Learning on Cratloe roads

Early lessons begin close to where we collect you, with plenty of time to get comfortable. Gallows Hill and Old Cratloe Road come next, once you can keep a steady speed and plan ahead. Near the end of the course, the dual carriageway gives you practice at higher speeds.

Cratloe Community Hall works well as a pick-up point if your house is awkward to reach. Home, school and work are fine as well. You are dropped back at the end of the hour, and collection costs nothing on top of the lesson.

We also teach in Sixmilebridge and Shannon, both close to Cratloe. Sixmilebridge is 4.8 km away in a straight line and Shannon 7.8 km. If your college or job is in either, we can collect you there instead of at home.

The EDT: a guide

The EDT logbook stays in your hands from the first lesson to the last. After each lesson your instructor signs the page, and you can see the course filling up. It is a record, not a verdict. Whether you are ready for Woodview or Shannon is a separate call, made honestly by your instructor.

Cratloe questions

A few good questions

Should I take my test at Woodview or Shannon?

From Cratloe, both are about 10 minutes away by road, so go with whichever has the earlier date. Your later lessons and the pretest move to the area around the centre you book, so either choice works.

Could Cratloe Community Hall be where each lesson starts?

Yes. Name it as your pick-up point when you book. Your instructor meets you there at the start of the hour and brings you back, with nothing added to the price.

Will a driving instructor in Cratloe take me on the dual carriageway?

Later in the course, yes, once you are steady at lower speeds. It is good practice for joining traffic, keeping a safe gap and changing lanes. We only add it when you are ready for it.

How do I book my first lesson in Cratloe?

The theory test comes first, and after that your learner permit from the NDLS. After that, fill in the form on this page or call 021 2355558, and we match you with an instructor and agree your pick-up point.
