Anyone on a learner permit has to complete Essential Driver Training before the test: 12 lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor. In Buttevant, each one starts from your agreed pick-up, Coláiste Pobail Naomh Mhuire included, and ends with a drop-off. The manual course is €587.95.
Each lesson is signed off in your logbook before you leave the car, so you can see how far through you are. If you hold certain foreign licences, a reduced six-lesson course may apply, and we'll confirm it when you enquire.

Getting ready for the test
From Buttevant to your test
The Mallow centre is the nearest, about 14.4 km by road and about 15 minutes. After Mallow come Mitchelstown at about 30 minutes, Newcastle West at about 40 and Wilton at about 50. Any of them can be your centre, and a further one may offer an earlier date. You choose when you apply.
The pretest gives you a one-hour lesson in the area around your test centre shortly before your test, plus car hire for the test itself. So the car you sit the test in is the one you've practised in. If Mallow is your centre, that hour is spent around Mallow, about 15 minutes from home.

Pick-up is agreed before your opening lesson. Coláiste Pobail Naomh Mhuire works as a pick-up point for its students, and home or work suits everyone else. When the lesson ends, we drop you at the same point or another one we've agreed.
We also teach in Doneraile, 5.6 km away in a straight line, in Mallow, and across the county line in Kilmallock, County Limerick. Learners in each get the same agreed pick-up and the same prices, so tell us where you live when you enquire.
