We teach both manual and automatic. Pass in an automatic and your licence carries code 78, restricting you to automatics; pass in a manual and you can drive either.

Manual driving lessons Doneraile
A manual course starts with the car itself: seat, mirrors, pedals and moving off cleanly. From there you practise turns and junctions on the streets near home, then move onto the Mallow Road for longer stretches in higher gears. Labbavaoun Bridge comes into the lessons as you get steadier. After each hour your instructor sums up what went well and what's next, and once it all comes together, we drive to test standard.

Automatic driving lessons in Doneraile remove the clutch and gear stick from the task. That leaves more of each hour for observation and speed. Keep in mind what the licence allows: an automatic pass gives code 78, limiting you to automatic cars, while a manual pass covers both. EDT lessons in Doneraile
Every learner permit holder has to complete Essential Driver Training, 12 lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor, before the test. From Doneraile, each of those lessons starts with a pick-up from home, school or work and ends with a drop-off.
After each lesson, your instructor signs it off in your logbook. If you hold certain foreign licences, you may qualify for a reduced six-lesson course, and we'll check that with you at the start. For a manual car, the full 12-lesson course is €587.95.
The EDT guide ↗Two centres about 20 minutes away
From Doneraile, the Mallow centre is about 17 km by road and Mitchelstown about 24 km, and both take about 20 minutes. Newcastle West and Wilton are further, each about 50 minutes. With two centres so close to home, you can apply for whichever has a date that suits you.
A pretest is one hour of driving around your test centre, taken just before the test. It includes car hire for the test itself. You take the test in the car you practised in. Book Mallow or Mitchelstown, and the whole hour is spent driving in the area around that centre.
Lessons from your door in Doneraile
Your early lessons begin right at your pick-up point, so you learn the controls without driving far. As you settle, the Mallow Road becomes a regular part of each hour, and Labbavaoun Bridge follows later, when you're ready for it.
We don't use a fixed meeting point in Doneraile. Instead we agree a pick-up with you: your home, your school or your work. When the hour is done, we drop you back there or at another point agreed with you in advance.

Your EDT logbook records each of the 12 lessons with your instructor's signature, so you always know where you stand. Nearer the test, we go through the marking sheet with you, fault by fault, and keep working on anything that still shows up. Then you drive to Mallow or Mitchelstown knowing what to expect.

Should I take my test in Mallow or Mitchelstown?
Both are about 20 minutes from Doneraile by road, Mallow about 17 km and Mitchelstown about 24 km. Pick whichever offers a date that suits you. The pretest is then spent in the area around the centre you choose.
