Driving lessonsCaherciveen
Your lessons start from an agreed point in Caherciveen. Killarney and Tralee are each about 60 minutes away, so we plan the run-up to your test with that drive in mind.
What Caherciveen learners can expect
Driving lessons in Caherciveen are one hour each, with pick-up and drop-off at a point you agree. You learn in a dual-controlled car with an Approved Driving Instructor beside you.
Collected at Coláiste na Sceilge
If you are a student at Coláiste na Sceilge, the school can be your pick-up point. Otherwise we collect you from home or work, and the agreed pick-up costs nothing extra.
RSA-approved, dual controls
An Approved Driving Instructor teaches every lesson, in a car with a second brake on the passenger side. That backup makes your opening drives along Market Street calmer for both of you.
A calm hour each time
Nobody shouts, and you are never pushed faster than you want to go. Nervous learners can spend as long as they need on Bridge Street before moving on.
Ready before the long drive
With either centre about 60 minutes away, we would rather you made that trip when you are truly ready. So we tell you honestly when you are, and what is missing when you are not.
Clutch-free if you like
You can learn in either, with the car confirmed at enquiry. Bear in mind that an automatic pass gives a licence restricted to automatics, recorded as code 78.
Your preferences count
Tell us what you want from an instructor when you get in touch. A request for a female instructor is welcome, and we confirm your instructor and car before you begin.

Manual driving lessons Caherciveen
Manual lessons start with the clutch, the gears and smooth stops, at a pace that suits you. From there you move onto O'Connell Street and Market Street for junctions, mirrors and signals. Later lessons add reversing, longer drives and more independent driving. Your test centre is about an hour away, so the final lessons are planned around the pretest. You arrive at Killarney or Tralee already driving to test standard.

You can ask for automatic driving lessons in Caherciveen when you enquire, and we confirm the car and instructor at that point. Learning without a clutch can help some people settle sooner, since the car handles the gears. The licence is where the difference shows. Pass your test in an automatic and you get code 78, which limits you to automatic cars. Pass in a manual and you may drive both.

Caherciveen lesson prices
Nothing is added for distance. The prices below are the same in Caherciveen as in every other town we teach in, and they include your agreed pick-up.
EDT lessons in Caherciveen
Before you can sit the driving test, you need 12 lessons of Essential Driver Training with an Approved Driving Instructor. A signature in your logbook marks each one complete. In Caherciveen, those lessons begin from your agreed pick-up point. They form the backbone of your learning, long before any thought of the drive to a test centre.
If you hold certain foreign licences, a reduced course of six lessons may apply instead. The full 12 lessons cost €587.95 in a manual or €659.24 in an automatic. When the logbook is full, your instructor gives you an honest view: ready for a pretest, or a few more lessons first.
The EDT guide ↗An hour to your test centre
From Caherciveen, Killarney is about 63.5 km by road and Tralee about 67.2 km, both roughly 60 minutes. With so little between them, the date on offer is what should decide it. Newcastle West, about 100 minutes away, and the Mallow centre, about 105 minutes, are further options if you need them.
Your pretest is a one-hour lesson in the area around the centre you booked, shortly before the test, with car hire for the test itself. That way you drive the car you practised in. Since the centre is about an hour from home, it helps to plan the day as a whole. We can work out the timing with you.
Lessons on Caherciveen's streets
We begin at your pick-up point, with time to learn the controls before tackling junctions. As you settle, lessons take in Bridge Street and O'Connell Street, then Reenrusheen Road for longer stretches. Every step forward is agreed with you first, so nothing new arrives before you want it.
When you book a driving instructor in Caherciveen with us, the pick-up point is agreed at the start. It can be home, work, or Coláiste na Sceilge if you are a student there. Drop-off is at the same point or another one you agree. Both are included in the lesson price.
We also cover Waterville, 13.8 km away in a straight line, along with Dingle Town and Killorglin. Lessons and prices do not change from one town to the next, and the pick-up point is always agreed locally. Tell us which town suits you when you enquire.

The EDT: a guide
Your logbook is the paper trail of EDT. Each of the 12 lessons is signed by your instructor once it is complete, and you hold onto the book from start to finish. Bring it to lessons so nothing is missed. With your centre an hour away, it is worth checking that every signature is in place well before your test date.
The EDT guide ↗ Preparing for the test ↗A few good questions
Should I book my test at Killarney or Tralee from Caherciveen?
Both are about 60 minutes by road, so neither is really closer. Go with the date that suits you better. We prepare you for either centre, and your pretest takes place in the area around the one you book.
Would Coláiste na Sceilge suit as a pick-up point?
Yes. The school can be your agreed pick-up and drop-off point, and so can home or work. We settle it when you book, and it costs nothing on top of the lesson.
How does the pretest work when the centre is an hour away?
You get a one-hour lesson in the area around your centre shortly before the test, and the car is hired for the test itself. Because of the distance, it pays to plan the whole day, so we go through the timing with you when you book.
Will 12 EDT lessons be enough before a test from Caherciveen?
For some learners, yes, and for others, no. We tell you honestly. If you need more practice before facing the drive to Killarney or Tralee, we say what it is and why. If you do not, we say that instead.
