Driving lessons Milltown
What you get in Milltown
Book driving lessons in Milltown and an Approved Driving Instructor collects you and teaches you in a dual-controlled car. You are kept posted on how near you are to test standard.
Meet us at the community centre
Your instructor can collect you at Milltown Community Centre, or from home, school or work if you prefer. The agreed pick-up and drop-off are included in the lesson price.
RSA-approved instructors
Every instructor holds RSA approval as an Approved Driving Instructor. The car has a second set of pedals on the passenger side, which takes the worry out of your opening drives on Main Street.
Lessons without pressure
There is no shouting and no rush. If you are nervous, say so, and you can spend as long as you like on Chapel Lane before you move on.
Truthful about your progress
Tralee is about 20 minutes away and Killarney about 25, so getting to a test is easy. We only suggest booking one when your driving is genuinely ready for it.
Learn in either car
Lessons can be in a manual or an automatic. Code 78 is the restriction that comes with an automatic pass, while a manual pass lets you drive both.
Say what matters most
A female instructor can be requested when you enquire, if that would put you at ease. We confirm your instructor and car at that stage, before anything is booked.

Manual driving lessons Milltown
Your manual lessons begin with the pedals and the gear stick, moving off and stopping until both feel natural. From your agreed pick-up point you then build up to junctions and turns on Main Street and Miles's Lane. Each later lesson adds a little more: roundabouts, reversing, longer drives out of town. In the final stretch, we practise in the area around your chosen centre, Tralee or Killarney, so the test day holds fewer surprises.

Automatic driving lessons Milltown
We can arrange automatic driving lessons in Milltown, with the car and instructor confirmed at enquiry. Without a clutch to manage, you can spend more of each hour on observation, positioning and judging gaps. Before you decide, know what the licence means. Pass in an automatic and you receive code 78, so you are licensed for automatics only. A manual pass carries no such restriction.

EDT lessons in Milltown
Before your test, you must complete 12 lessons of Essential Driver Training with an Approved Driving Instructor. Your instructor signs each one off in your logbook. From Milltown, these lessons start at your agreed pick-up point. We fold them into your steady progress rather than treating them as a separate box to tick.
A shorter six-lesson course exists for holders of some foreign licences. For everyone else, the 12-lesson course costs €587.95 in a manual or €659.24 in an automatic. When the logbook is complete, we look honestly at whether you need more practice or are ready to book a test.

Getting ready for the test
Choosing a centre from Milltown
Tralee is about 20.1 km by road from Milltown, roughly 20 minutes. Killarney is about 20.4 km, roughly 25 minutes. That is close to a tie, so the deciding factor is usually the date on offer. If you have no preference, book whichever centre can take you sooner, and we will prepare you for it.
Your pretest is a one-hour lesson in the area around the centre you booked, shortly before the test itself. Car hire for the test is part of the package, so you drive the same car you have been practising in. Further afield, Newcastle West is about 60 minutes away and the Mallow centre about 70 minutes.

Learning in Milltown
Learning on Milltown's streets
Early lessons start from your pick-up point and take things one skill at a time. You then move onto Main Street, and later onto Chapel Lane and Sprout Lane, as your confidence grows. Longer drives come after that, building towards the kind of driving the test asks of you.
We agree a pick-up and drop-off point before your first lesson. Home, school or work all suit, and Milltown Community Centre is an easy place to meet if that is better for you. There is no charge on top of the lesson price for any of this.
Killorglin is just 6.4 km away in a straight line, Tralee is 13.8 km and Killarney is 17.3 km. We teach in all three, with the same lessons and prices. If you work or study in one of them, your pick-up point can be there instead.

EDT and the test
The EDT: a guide
Your logbook is where EDT is recorded. Every one of the 12 lessons gets your instructor's signature once you have covered it, and you hold on to the book throughout. Read back over it now and then, because it shows how far you have come. You finish EDT with a complete record and a clear idea of what still needs practice.

Milltown questions
A few good questions
Which test centre is nearer to Milltown, Tralee or Killarney?
Tralee, but only just. It is about 20 minutes by road, against about 25 for Killarney. Because the difference is so small, pick the one with the earlier date, and we prepare you for that centre.
Would it work to start from Milltown Community Centre?
Yes. You can meet your instructor at the community centre, and be dropped back there, if that is easier than home, school or work. Tell us when you enquire and we agree it then.
Will a driving school in Milltown suit me if I am nervous?
Yes. Lessons are calm, there is no shouting, and you decide how fast things move. If you mention your nerves at the enquiry stage, your instructor hears about them before the opening lesson.
Do you sell gift vouchers for learners in Milltown?
Yes. As a gift, you can choose 1, 3, 6 or 12 lessons, in either a manual or an automatic. The person receiving one gets the same agreed pick-up and an Approved Driving Instructor, like any other learner.
