Driving lessons Limerick City
What you get in Limerick City
We build driving lessons in Limerick City around you. Each one is an hour, starts from an agreed point and moves you a step closer to Woodview.
Pick-up is in the price
Studying at Griffith College? Your instructor can collect you there, or from home or work, and both the pick-up and drop-off are in the lesson price.
An approved instructor beside you
From your first slow loop to O'Connell Street, every drive happens beside an Approved Driving Instructor in a dual-controlled car. If you need help stopping, there is a second brake on their side.
Calm, at your pace
Nobody in the car raises their voice, and if nerves are the problem, Roxboro Road can wait until you say you are ready.
Honest about test readiness
Before you book a slot at Woodview, your instructor tells you plainly whether you are ready. If something is missing, you hear what it is, not a pitch for extra hours.
Manual or automatic
Both are taught here, and the choice shows on your licence afterwards. With a manual pass you can drive either kind of car, while an automatic pass adds code 78, automatic only.
A say in who teaches you
When you enquire, tell us what you need from an instructor, including whether you would prefer a female instructor. We confirm who will teach you before you get in the car.

Manual driving lessons Limerick City
Manual lessons start with clutch control, gears and moving off, close to where you were collected. Practice continues until those three stop feeling like separate jobs. Junctions and roundabouts come next, then longer drives out along Dooradoyle Road. Your instructor moves you on once your mirror checks and planning keep pace with the car. Near the end, lessons shift to the area around Woodview, about 5 minutes by road. By then, test standard is something you have already driven, not something you hope for.

Automatic driving lessons Limerick City
Automatic driving lessons in Limerick City take the clutch out of the picture. That leaves room in each hour for mirrors, steering and planning ahead. The trade-off is in the licence. Pass in an automatic at Woodview and you get code 78, which keeps you to automatic cars, while a manual pass covers both. Before you pay, we tell you which instructor and which automatic car will be yours. A single automatic hour is €61.41.

EDT lessons in Limerick City
12EDT lessons6Reduced EDT
Before you can sit a test at Woodview or Shannon, you need all 12 lessons of Essential Driver Training behind you. Each one is taught by an Approved Driving Instructor, who signs your logbook as it is completed. We start them from your agreed pick-up point, so the course fits around college or work.
Moved to Limerick City with a licence from abroad? Some foreign licences qualify for a shorter, six-lesson course, so bring yours up when you enquire. Pick-up from the point we agree comes with every EDT lesson, Griffith College included. The full course of 12 is listed on the EDT ticket above.

Getting ready for the test
Your test at Woodview or Shannon
From Limerick City, the drive to Woodview is 2.9 km, about 5 minutes, which makes it the obvious first choice. Shannon, 19.8 km and about 20 minutes away, is the one to try if Woodview has no date you can make. Ennis, about 35 minutes away, is another option. Your last few lessons are then planned around whichever of the three you pick.
The pretest is an hour in the area around Woodview, booked for shortly before your test, plus the car for the test itself. That way you drive the same car on the day as in your last lesson. Manual learners pay €183.63 for both parts. Picked Shannon instead? Then the hour is spent near Shannon.

Learning in Limerick City
Roads you learn on in Limerick City
Your first hour begins near the point where you were collected, with time to set the seat and mirrors before you move off. Over the following weeks, drives stretch out along Kilmallock Road, then O'Connell Street once your observation is sharp. You leave each hour knowing what the next one will add.
Home, college or the office: any of them can be your pick-up point once we agree the spot. Collected from college and dropped home afterwards? That works too, if we agree both points first. Say which suits when you fill in the form.
Living just outside Limerick City? Parteen, over the county line in Clare, is 4.0 km away in a straight line, and we teach there too. In Annacotty or Patrickswell, your first lessons can start close to home before moving on to Dooradoyle Road and, later, the area around Woodview.

EDT and the test
The EDT: a guide
Your EDT logbook is the record of the 12 lessons, each one signed by your instructor before you leave the car. Keep it with your learner permit and bring both every time. Flicking back through it is a quick way to see how far you have come since your first slow loop.

Limerick City questions
A few good questions
Which test centre is closest to Limerick City?
Woodview, at 2.9 km by road and about 5 minutes. Shannon is 19.8 km and about 20 minutes away, and Ennis 37.8 km, about 35 minutes. A further centre may have an earlier date, so check more than one before you apply.
Do lessons cost more in Limerick City than elsewhere?
No. One price list runs across Munster, so a manual hour costs €53.27 in Limerick City and in Patrickswell alike. Pick-up at the point we agree is part of that price, not an extra.
How many lessons will I need before a test at Woodview?
Everyone with a learner permit completes the 12 EDT lessons first. Beyond that, nobody can give a fair number in advance. Your instructor tells you when you are ready for Woodview, and until then, what is missing. You book the hours you need and no more.
What do I need before starting lessons in Limerick City?
Two things come first: a theory test pass and a learner permit from the NDLS. With the permit in hand, fill in the form on this page or call 021 2355558. Say where you would like to be collected, and we find an Approved Driving Instructor to suit.
