Lessons built around Fethard

With driving lessons in Fethard, you are collected for every hour, taught by an Approved Driving Instructor, and told honestly how close you are to the Clonmel test.

Pick-up at the secondary school

Patrician Presentation Secondary School can be your agreed pick-up point straight after class. Home or work suit others, and no pick-up is ever charged on top.

An ADI, every lesson

You learn with an Approved Driving Instructor in a dual-controlled car, so your first drives along Burke Street are backed by a second brake.

Calm and patient

Your instructor keeps every lesson calm. If nerves are an issue, Rocklow Road and the quicker roads come only when you say you are ready.

Straight talk before Clonmel

We tell you when you are ready for the Clonmel test, and if you are not, exactly what is missing. That keeps your lessons to the number you need.

Two gearboxes

Both are taught. Code 78 on an automatic licence limits you to automatic cars, while a manual pass lets you drive either kind.

Requests heard in Fethard

If you would prefer a female instructor, or need anything else, tell us when you enquire. It goes straight into choosing who teaches you in Fethard.

Manual driving lessons Fethard

Manual lessons in Fethard start near your pick-up with clutch control and gear changes, then smooth stopping and pulling away. Junctions and roundabouts come next, followed by reversing. Barrack Street and Burke Street feature in the early drives, and Rocklow Road and Knockelly Road follow as you build speed and confidence. After each hour you hear what went well and what is next, and the final lessons move to the area around the Clonmel centre, about 20 minutes away.

Automatic driving lessons Fethard

Automatic driving lessons in Fethard leave the gears to the car, so learning starts with steering and observation rather than a clutch pedal. You take the same test. The licence is the difference: an automatic pass gives code 78, so you can drive automatic cars only, while a manual pass covers both. Let us know when you enquire, and we find an automatic instructor who covers Fethard.

EDT lessons in Fethard

Essential Driver Training is 12 one-hour lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor, and it has to be finished before the test if you hold a learner permit. We collect you in Fethard for each of them, and your logbook is signed before you get out.

You do not need to know the course content: you drive, and your instructor makes sure each hour moves you on. Some licences from abroad cut it to six lessons. In an automatic, the course costs €659.24 for all 12.

Getting ready for the test

Clonmel, Thurles or Tipperary town

From Fethard, the Clonmel centre is 16.6 km by road, about 20 minutes away. Thurles, at about 35 minutes, is a little quicker to reach than Tipperary town at about 40, though the two are almost the same distance. Mitchelstown, about 45 minutes, is the last of the four options.

The pretest takes place shortly before your test: one hour in the area around the centre you chose, plus the car you will sit the test in. If you learn in an automatic, expect to pay €193.81 for it. Book it on 021 2355558 when your test date arrives, or use the form.

Learning in Fethard

Fethard roads, early and later

Your first hour is spent near your pick-up while you learn the controls. The early lessons take in Barrack Street and Burke Street. Later, Rocklow Road and Knockelly Road give you longer drives, so speed, spacing and planning ahead all get practice.

Patrician Presentation Secondary School suits students as a pick-up point, while home or work suits everyone else. We agree it when you book, and your instructor drops you back at the same point or another one you have arranged in advance.

Ballyclerahan, 7.5 km away in a straight line, and Killenaule, 11.3 km, are among our towns, and so is Cashel. Each one has its own pick-up, so a learner there is not asked to travel to Fethard for a lesson.

The EDT: a guide

Each of your 12 EDT lessons gets an entry in the logbook, signed by your instructor before you leave the car in Fethard. Bring the book and your learner permit to every lesson. Once the entries are all signed and your instructor agrees you are ready, we turn to Clonmel and your pretest.

Clonmel, roughly 20 minutes by road. Thurles takes about 35 and Tipperary town about 40, even though they are almost the same distance away. Apply to whichever suits, and we prepare you for it.

Will my instructor wait at the secondary school after class?

Yes, if Patrician Presentation Secondary School is your agreed pick-up point. Your instructor meets you there when the lesson is due, and the drop-off can be the school or your home.

Is a lesson in Fethard the same price as in Clonmel?

Yes, to the cent. A manual hour is €53.27 in both, with pick-up and drop-off included, and the EDT course and pretest are also priced the same everywhere we teach.
