Learning with us in Castlemartyr

When comparing a driving school in Castlemartyr, ask who teaches you, where they collect you and how you will know you are ready. Our answers are below.

Your agreed pick-up point

Your lesson price covers pick-up and drop-off at a point we agree with you: your home, your work or Castlemartyr Community Centre.

Approved and dual-controlled

Every instructor we send is an RSA Approved Driving Instructor. Each car has dual controls, so you can practise on Mogeely Road early on with a second brake beside you.

Calm, steady lessons

We never shout, and a nervous start is fine with us. You decide when to move from short drives near the community centre onto Ladysbridge Road.

No padding with extra hours

We tell you honestly when you are ready for Wilton or Dungarvan. When you are not, we name what is missing instead of booking you more lessons.

Pick your transmission

Lessons come in manual or automatic cars. A manual pass covers both, but an automatic pass gives a code 78 licence that restricts you to automatic cars.

Your preferences count

Tell us when you enquire what you want from an instructor. A female instructor is something you can ask for, and we confirm who is available.

Manual driving lessons Castlemartyr

Manual learners start with the basics of the car: pedals, gears, steering and moving away under control. Next come Killeagh Road and Mogeely Road, where junctions and other traffic start to come together. After that, lessons are about doing it all with less help, until you can drive a full hour to test standard. The 12 EDT lessons fit inside this progression, and in a manual the course is €587.95 with pick-up in Castlemartyr included.

Automatic driving lessons Castlemartyr

We also give automatic driving lessons in Castlemartyr. Without a clutch, you can concentrate on watching the road and placing the car from the start. Code 78 is the thing to weigh up. It goes on your licence after an automatic pass and limits you to automatic cars, whereas a manual pass lets you drive both. We confirm automatic instructor times and the car when you enquire, as they vary by town.

EDT lessons in Castlemartyr

Essential Driver Training is 12 one-hour lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor, completed before your test and logged as you go. From Castlemartyr, each starts with pick-up at your agreed point, and your instructor signs the logbook before you get out of the car.

Ask us at any stage how your EDT is going and you get a straight answer, good or bad. Holders of some foreign licences qualify for a reduced course of six lessons, and we can check whether yours does when you enquire.

Getting ready for the test

Testing at Wilton or Dungarvan

From Castlemartyr, Wilton is 35.8 km and about 30 minutes by road, and Dungarvan, over the county line, is 43.8 km and about 35 minutes. With the two so close in time, you can pick whichever offers a date that suits. The Mallow centre and Mitchelstown are further out, at about 55 and 50 minutes.

Whichever you choose, the pretest takes place in the area around that centre shortly before your test. It is one hour of driving, then the same car hired for the test. You start the test having just driven the car you will be tested in, with nothing new to get used to.

Learning in Castlemartyr

Castlemartyr roads in your lessons

Lessons begin near where we pick you up, with time to settle into the car before anything new. As your control grows, we add Mogeely Road and Killeagh Road, and later Ladysbridge Road, at whatever pace you are comfortable with on the day.

The one meeting point we use in Castlemartyr is the Community Centre. You can also be collected from home, school or work, at a point we agree before your first lesson. You are dropped back at the same place when the hour is up.

We also teach in Shanagarry, 6.8 km away, in Cloyne at 7.1 km and in Midleton at 7.9 km. Each gets the same one-hour lessons, the same agreed local pickup and the same prices. Moving from one to another changes nothing about how you learn.

The EDT: a guide

The sheet in the photo lists the faults an examiner can mark during a driving test. Wilton and Dungarvan work from the same sheet, so picking one centre over the other does not change how you are judged. What changes your result is preparation, and we tell you honestly when yours is complete.

Castlemartyr questions

A few good questions

Is Wilton or Dungarvan better for a Castlemartyr learner?

Either works. With Wilton about 30 minutes away and Dungarvan about 35, the earlier date is what decides it. Tell us which you have applied for, and we prepare you for that centre and book the pretest there.

Where can you collect me in Castlemartyr?

From your home, your school or college, your work or Castlemartyr Community Centre, at a point we agree with you. Pick-up and drop-off are part of every lesson price, so there is nothing extra to pay.

Is my driving instructor in Castlemartyr approved by the RSA?

Yes. Every instructor we use is an Approved Driving Instructor, approved by the RSA, and every car has dual controls. That holds for every EDT lesson, every single lesson and the pretest alike.

Are automatic lessons possible from Castlemartyr, or only manual?

Yes, for EDT, single lessons and the pretest. Instructor times vary by town, so we confirm your automatic car and instructor when you enquire. Keep in mind that an automatic pass gives a code 78 licence.
