Either gearbox in the city
We teach both. A manual pass lets you drive either type of car, while an automatic pass gives a licence marked code 78, for automatics only.

Automatic driving lessons in Cork City leave you with two pedals instead of three. You sit the same test, but an automatic pass gives a code 78 licence, which covers automatic cars only. EDT lessons in Cork City
If you hold a learner permit, you must complete 12 lessons of Essential Driver Training with an Approved Driving Instructor before your test. Your instructor signs each one off in your logbook as you go, so you always know where you stand.
The full EDT course in a manual is €587.95, and the tickets show the automatic price beside it. Some foreign licence holders qualify for a reduced course of six lessons, and we can check that with you when you call.

Getting ready for the test
Your driving test from Cork City
Wilton is the nearest test centre, about 5.1 km and 10 minutes by road from the city. The Mallow centre is about 30 minutes away, and Mitchelstown about 40. A further centre may sometimes have an earlier date, so the choice of centre is yours to make. We prepare you for whichever you pick.
Shortly before the test, you can book a pretest. It is a one-hour lesson in the area around the centre, with the car hired for the test itself. That way you sit the test in the car you practised in. For a manual car, it costs €183.63. Book it once we have agreed you are ready.

Learning on the city's roads
Your first hour starts near your pick-up point, where you can settle into the car. As your control improves, lessons take in Grand Parade. Later you add Victoria Cross Road, along with the junctions and lane choices you will need for the test.
Cork Kent station is our meeting point in the city, useful if you come in by train. You can also arrange collection from home, college or work, and the drop-off can be a different spot from the pick-up, by agreement.
We teach in the towns around the city as well. Blarney is 7.6 km away, Ballygarvan 8.3 km and Passage West 9.9 km, each a straight-line distance. If you split your week between home and work, tell us both and we agree where each lesson starts.

The EDT: a guide
The logbook you carry through EDT shows every lesson you have done. After each lesson your instructor signs the entry and talks you through what went well and what needs another go. Keep the book with your learner permit, so it is to hand when you need it. By the last entry, you will know exactly where you stand.
