Learning with us in Crosshaven

What you get from a driving school in Crosshaven should be clear from the start. Here it is an Approved Driving Instructor, a dual-controlled car and pick-up at an agreed point.

Pick-up at Coláiste Muire

Your instructor can meet you at Coláiste Muire, or collect you from home or work by agreement. Drop-off at the end of the hour costs nothing extra.

RSA-approved, dual controls

Lessons are with an RSA-approved instructor in a car with dual controls. That means you can start on Upper Road with support close at hand.

Steady and patient lessons

Nobody shouts. If you are anxious, we keep to the pace you are comfortable with and build up gradually, one skill at a time.

Honest test advice

Because Wilton is a 25-minute drive, a test you are not ready for wastes a trip. We tell you plainly whether you are at test standard and what is missing.

Manual or automatic

You can learn on either gearbox. The difference shows on your licence: code 78 means automatic only, while a manual pass covers both kinds of car.

Your preferences count

Say what you want from an instructor when you enquire, including a female instructor if you would prefer one. We let you know what we can arrange.

Manual driving lessons Crosshaven

From Crosshaven, manual lessons open with the controls, moving off and stopping. Next comes clutch control on Middle Road, then junctions and gear changes on Church Bay Road as the weeks go on. Reversing and turning follow once the car feels familiar. Each hour has one clear aim, set at the start. Your instructor sums up each lesson in a sentence or two, and tells you straight when you have reached the standard for the test.

Automatic driving lessons Crosshaven

Automatic driving lessons in Crosshaven let you concentrate on reading the road without changing gear. The test itself is the same as in a manual. What changes is your licence: an automatic pass is marked code 78 and does not cover manual cars. Tell us you want automatic when you enquire, and we confirm the instructor and car, since times vary by town.

EDT lessons in Crosshaven

On a learner permit, you complete 12 lessons of Essential Driver Training with an Approved Driving Instructor before your test. Each lesson is signed off in your logbook on the day. In Crosshaven, the lessons start from Coláiste Muire or your home, whichever you agreed.

You do not need to rush EDT, and nothing is signed until the lesson is done. Holders of some foreign licences can take a reduced course of six lessons instead of 12, so tell us if that might apply to you.

Getting ready for the test

Your test from Crosshaven

Wilton is the nearest centre to Crosshaven, about 23.3 km and 25 minutes by road. Mitchelstown is about 55 minutes away and the Mallow centre about 60. Wilton is the practical choice unless one of the others offers a date you need. We prepare you for the centre you choose, and we tell you when to apply.

With a drive to the centre, the pretest earns its place. It is a one-hour lesson in the area around the centre shortly before your test, plus car hire for the test itself. You pay €183.63 for it in a manual, or €193.81 in an automatic. Ask about it when your date is confirmed.

Building up on Crosshaven's roads

Your opening lessons stay close to your pick-up point while you learn the car. Upper Road and Middle Road come in as you settle, and Ringaskiddy Road follows once you are comfortable with gears and observation. Each step is agreed with your instructor first.

We can collect you from Coláiste Muire if you would rather not start at home. Pick-up from work is fine as well, provided we agree the spot beforehand, and the drop-off is part of the lesson price. Tell us your preference when you book.

We teach in nearby towns too. Ringaskiddy is 3.6 km away and Carrigaline 6.8 km, both straight-line distances, and we cover Cobh as well. If you move between them for work or school, mention it when you enquire, so we can agree the pick-up for each lesson.

The EDT: a guide

The logbook stays with you through EDT. Your instructor signs off each of the 12 lessons once it is complete, and you can watch the record build up. When it is full and we agree you are ready, you book the test and, if you want it, a pretest at Wilton.

Crosshaven questions

A few good questions

How long does it take to get from Crosshaven to Wilton?

About 25 minutes by road, for a distance of about 23.3 km. Since that is a fair drive, a pretest lesson in the area around the centre is worth considering shortly before your test.

Would you collect me at Coláiste Muire?

Yes. Coláiste Muire is the one meeting point we use in Crosshaven, so long as it is agreed before the lesson. Home or work pick-up is included in the price as well.

Do you give driving lessons in Crosshaven to nervous learners?

Yes. Every lesson stays calm, and no instructor of ours shouts. Tell us you are nervous when you enquire, and the early lessons will stay simple until you feel ready to do more. Nobody will push you onto a new road before then.

Should I wait before applying for a test from Crosshaven?

Wait until we tell you that you are at test standard. We are honest about it either way, and we would rather you waited a few weeks than sat the test unprepared.
