Driving lessonsFermoy
An Approved Driving Instructor collects you at an agreed point in Fermoy and brings you back after each hour. When you're ready, we prepare you for the Mitchelstown centre, about 15 minutes away.
What you get in Fermoy
Our driving lessons in Fermoy last one hour, with pick-up included, a dual-controlled car and an instructor who stays calm. You always know what you're working on and what comes next.
Pick-up from home or school
We can pick you up at home, at work or outside Loreto Secondary School, and bring you back when the hour is done. That costs nothing extra, because it's in the lesson price.
RSA-approved teaching
An Approved Driving Instructor teaches you, in a car with a brake on both sides. That matters most on your early runs along McCurtain Street, when everything still feels new.
Patient from lesson one
Nervous learners are welcome, and no one shouts. We move on from College Road to the Glanworth Road only when you say you're ready, never on a timetable.
Told plainly when you're ready
You won't be pushed towards Mitchelstown before you're ready, or kept on lessons once you are. We tell you which it is, and what's still missing, in plain words.
Pick your gearbox
We teach both. Pass in a manual and you can drive either type; pass in an automatic and your licence shows code 78, which means automatics only.
Your preferences, heard
If you'd feel easier with a female instructor, ask for one when you get in touch. Mention anything else that matters to you at the same time, and we'll be straight about what's possible.

Manual driving lessons Fermoy
In a manual, the early hours go on clutch control, moving off and stopping, close to where you're collected. Next come junctions and turns on College Road and McCurtain Street. As your gear changes smooth out, lessons stretch onto the Rathealy Road and the Glanworth Road. A one-hour manual lesson costs €53.27. Your instructor explains at each step what you've got right and what still needs work. Once you're driving without prompts, we start working at test standard.

Choose automatic driving lessons in Fermoy and there's no clutch or gear stick to learn, so the work goes into observation, positioning and speed. The trade-off is the licence: pass in an automatic and it carries code 78, limiting you to automatic cars. With a manual pass you can drive either type. We confirm which instructor and car are available to you when you enquire.

Fermoy lesson prices
There's one price list, and Fermoy learners pay the same as anyone else. The tickets below show single lessons, EDT and the pretest, manual and automatic.
EDT lessons in Fermoy
If you hold a learner permit, you must complete Essential Driver Training before you can sit the test: 12 lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor. We collect you in Fermoy for each one, just as we would for an ordinary lesson, and drop you back afterwards.
Your instructor signs each lesson off in your logbook before the hour ends, so the record is never behind. Some foreign licence holders qualify for a shorter, six-lesson course instead. Tell us about your licence when you enquire and we'll check which applies to you.
The EDT guide ↗Taking your test from Fermoy
Your nearest centre is Mitchelstown, about 16.9 km by road, or about 15 minutes. The Mallow centre is about 30 minutes away and Wilton about 35, while Dungarvan, at about 45 minutes, is the furthest of the four. A centre further out can sometimes have an earlier date, so it's worth a look.
The pretest is one hour of driving in the area around the centre you've booked, shortly before your test. Car hire for the test is included. So you sit the test in the car you practised in. From Fermoy, that usually means an hour around Mitchelstown, then the test in the same car.
Where Fermoy lessons take you
Your opening hour starts at your pick-up point, with time to get used to the car before you drive far. From there, lessons work outwards: McCurtain Street and College Road early on, then the Rathealy Road once you're confident at junctions.
We agree a pick-up point with you before the first lesson: your house, your job, or Loreto Secondary School if you're a student there. You can be dropped somewhere else afterwards, as long as we agree it in advance. Just tell us when you enquire.
We also teach in Mitchelstown, 14.2 km away in a straight line, and in Tallow and Lismore in County Waterford. Learners in those towns get the same pick-up, the same calm lessons and the same prices as learners in Fermoy itself.

The EDT: a guide
That logbook is your record of EDT. Each of the 12 lessons gets a signature, and your instructor talks you through the hour before signing. Near the end, we use the test marking sheet to show which faults still cost you. That way you can fix them well before your test in Mitchelstown.
The EDT guide ↗ Preparing for the test ↗A few good questions
Why is my nearest test centre Mitchelstown and not Mallow?
By road, Mitchelstown is about 16.9 km from Fermoy, or about 15 minutes, while the Mallow centre is about 32.7 km and 30 minutes. You can still apply for Mallow, Wilton or Dungarvan if one of them offers a date that suits you better.
Do students at Loreto Secondary School get collected there?
Yes. We can collect you from the school, from home or from work, as long as we agree the point when you book. Pick-up and drop-off are part of the lesson price, so there's nothing extra to pay.
Are lessons in Fermoy suitable for nervous learners?
Yes. Nobody shouts, and you decide when you're ready to move from the streets near your pick-up onto bigger roads. If something worries you, tell your instructor and you'll spend longer on it until it doesn't.
Where do I start if I want a driving instructor in Fermoy?
Pass your theory test and get your learner permit from the NDLS first. Then send the form on this page or ring 021 2355558. We'll match you with an Approved Driving Instructor and agree your pick-up point.
