Driving lessons Kinsale
Learning with us in Kinsale
Driving lessons in Kinsale with us are one hour each, in a dual-controlled car. They move at the pace that suits you rather than a fixed plan.
Kinsale pick-up, in the price
Students at Kinsale Community School can be collected there, and other learners from home or work. Whichever point we agree, pick-up and drop-off are already in the price.
Approved Driving Instructors
The RSA approves every instructor we use as an Approved Driving Instructor. Each car has dual controls, which helps when you first try Carrigaline Road or Bandon Road.
Calm lessons, no shouting
We teach calmly, and nobody shouts. If you are anxious, tell us at the start, and we will keep early lessons light on new things and long on practice.
Ready for Wilton or not
When your driving is fit for a test at Wilton, we say so. When it is not, we tell you what is missing instead of selling you more hours.
Both gearboxes taught
You can learn in either car. A pass in an automatic gives code 78, an automatic-only licence, whereas a manual pass covers both kinds of car.
Say who you'd like
Let us know what matters to you when you enquire. A female instructor can be requested, and we will tell you honestly what we can arrange.

Manual driving lessons Kinsale
Manual lessons begin with moving off, stopping and the gears, starting from Kinsale Community School or your home. Pearse Street and Emmet Place come next, adding junctions and turns to each hour. Once those feel settled, we move onto Carrigaline Road and Bandon Road for longer drives where you plan ahead. By the end, you drive for the full hour with little help, which is the test standard we look for.

Learn in an automatic
Automatic driving lessons Kinsale
Automatic driving lessons in Kinsale suit learners who want to leave out the clutch. The trade-off is code 78: an automatic pass gives you a licence for automatic cars only, while a manual pass lets you drive both. If you choose automatic for EDT, the 12-lesson course costs €659.24. Ask for automatic when you enquire, and we will tell you which instructor and car can take your lessons.

EDT lessons in Kinsale
If you hold a learner permit, the rules ask for 12 Essential Driver Training lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor before your test. Your instructor signs off each lesson in your logbook as you go. In Kinsale, EDT lessons start at the school or your agreed pick-up point.
If you have a foreign licence, ask us if you qualify for the reduced six-lesson course. Some do. We keep your logbook up to date at every lesson, so when the last one is signed, you know exactly where you stand.

Getting ready for the test
Sitting your test from Kinsale
From Kinsale, the nearest test centre is Wilton, about 26.1 km and 25 minutes by road. The Mallow centre is about 60 minutes away and Skibbereen about 65, and a further centre may have an earlier date. Ask us before you apply and we will talk the options through with you.
Shortly before your test, you have a pretest: one hour of driving in the area around your centre, then car hire for the test itself. You take the test in the same car you used all through your lessons, which is one less thing to think about on the day.

Learning in Kinsale
Lessons on Kinsale roads
We start lessons near your pick-up point and work on the controls first, with no rush. Pearse Street and Emmet Place follow, then Carrigaline Road and Bandon Road once you are ready for longer drives and more decisions of your own.
Kinsale Community School is our meeting point if you study there. Learners who have left school are collected from home or work instead, at an agreed point, and dropped back there after the hour. None of this adds to the price.
We teach in Innishannon, 11.4 km away in a straight line, and in Carrigaline and Crosshaven as well. If you live in one of those, or between them and Kinsale, ask us when you enquire where pick-up would suit you.

EDT and the test
The EDT: a guide
The logbook in the photo is where your instructor records each EDT lesson as you complete it. Look back through it before your pretest, as it shows how far you have come. It is also a good place to note anything you want to go over again. All 12 lessons need signing before your test.

Where would I sit my driving test from Kinsale?

Should I learn manual or automatic in Kinsale?
That depends on the cars you expect to drive. A manual pass covers both kinds, while an automatic pass gives a code 78 licence limited to automatics. We teach both, and confirm your instructor and car when you enquire.
