Driving lessons Millstreet
Why Millstreet learners choose us
Driving lessons in Millstreet with us mean an hour with an Approved Driving Instructor, pick-up included, and nobody shouting. We tell you when you're ready for your test, and not before.
Pick-up that's part of the price
We can start your lesson at home, at work or at Millstreet Community School, and finish it at the same place or another agreed one. There's no charge on top for that.
RSA-approved, with dual controls
Lessons are with an Approved Driving Instructor, in a car that has dual controls. That backup is there from your opening hour on Main Street to your last lesson before the test.
No raised voices
Nervous learners go at their own pace here, and nobody shouts. You'll get comfortable on Station Road before we add new roads, and you only move on when you agree.
Ready means ready
With Mallow about 30 minutes away and Killarney about 40, you don't want a wasted trip. We tell you straight when you're ready, and what's missing if you're not.
Licence rules for each gearbox
Pick either. An automatic has no clutch, but the licence you get carries code 78 and covers automatics only, while a manual licence covers both.
Tell us your wishes
Tell us when you enquire what kind of teaching suits you, including whether you'd like a female instructor. We'll be clear about what we can offer.

Manual driving lessons Millstreet
Manual lessons open with the basics: pedals, gears, mirrors and moving off without stalling. Once those feel normal, Main Street and Station Road give you junctions and turns to work on. After that, lessons go out over Ballinkeen Bridge for longer stretches where you settle into higher gears. Your instructor tells you what's improving and what still needs work. When you can drive the hour with few prompts, we start working to test standard.

Learn in an automatic
Automatic driving lessons Millstreet
If you'd like to skip the clutch, we offer automatic driving lessons in Millstreet. Without gears to change, you can focus on observation, speed and position from the start. The catch is the licence: an automatic pass gives code 78, which means automatic cars only, while a manual pass covers both. Instructor times vary by town, so we confirm who teaches you, and in which car, when you enquire.

EDT lessons in Millstreet
12EDT lessons6Reduced EDT
Essential Driver Training, or EDT, is the 12 lessons a learner permit holder must complete with an Approved Driving Instructor before the test. In Millstreet, each lesson begins at your agreed pick-up, the community school included, and ends there or at another agreed point.
Your instructor signs off each lesson in your logbook once it's done, so there's always a clear record. Holders of some foreign licences can take a reduced six-lesson course instead. Let us know about yours when you enquire, and we'll confirm which course you need.

Getting ready for the test
Your test, Mallow or Killarney
Two centres are within reach from Millstreet. The Mallow centre is about 32.7 km by road, about 30 minutes, and Killarney in County Kerry is about 35.1 km, about 40 minutes. Wilton is about 55 minutes away, and Newcastle West about 65. A centre further out may have an earlier date.
Because your centre is at least 30 minutes away, the pretest is worth having. It's a one-hour lesson in the area around that centre shortly before your test, plus car hire. So you take the test in the car you learned in. It costs €183.63 in a manual and €193.81 in an automatic.

Learning in Millstreet
Millstreet roads, step by step
We start each learner close to the pick-up point, with time to learn the controls before going further. Main Street comes next, then Station Road, and later Ballinkeen Bridge as your confidence grows. There's no fixed timetable for any of it.
Your pick-up is agreed in advance: home, work, or Millstreet Community School if that's handier for you. We can drop you at the same point or a different agreed one. Tell us when you enquire which one fits your week.
We also teach in Kanturk, 16.9 km away in a straight line, and in Macroom, as well as Killarney in County Kerry. Pick-up, lessons and prices work the same way in each of them as they do for learners here in Millstreet.

EDT and the test
The EDT: a guide
This is the logbook every EDT learner keeps. Your instructor signs it after each of the 12 lessons, so nothing goes unrecorded. Closer to your test, we use the marking sheet the tester fills in to show you which faults remain. You won't be driving to Mallow or Killarney unsure of where you stand.

Millstreet questions
A few good questions
Is the Mallow or Killarney test centre closer to Millstreet?
The Mallow centre is closer, at about 32.7 km by road and about 30 minutes. Killarney is about 35.1 km, or about 40 minutes. You can apply for either, so it's worth checking both for a date that suits.
Can lessons start from Millstreet Community School?
Yes, as long as it's agreed as your pick-up point when you book. The school, your home or your workplace can be your pick-up point. You're dropped back at the end of the hour, and that's in the price too.
Does the pretest cover the area around Killarney?
The pretest is a one-hour lesson in the area around the centre where your test is booked. So if that's Killarney, that's where the hour is spent. Car hire for the test is part of the pretest price as well.
Do you sell gift vouchers for lessons in Millstreet?
Yes. Vouchers cover 1, 3, 6 or 12 lessons, manual or automatic. Whoever receives one is collected at an agreed point in Millstreet, the same as any other learner, and we match them with an instructor.
