Driving lessons Killarney
Killarney lessons, start to finish
Our driving lessons in Killarney begin at your pick-up point and build one hour at a time. They lead towards a test at a centre about 2.1 km from town.
Met at Killarney station
Pick-up and drop-off at an agreed point come with every lesson. That can be Killarney station if you arrive by train, or your home, school, college or work.
RSA-approved and dual-controlled
Your instructor is approved by the RSA and teaches in a dual-controlled car. Those extra pedals give you a safety net while you find your feet on New Road.
Easy on the nerves
We teach without shouting, at whatever speed suits you. You move on to Countess Road only when the step before it feels settled.
Test when you are ready
With one centre about 5 minutes away and Tralee about 30, booking early is tempting. We tell you plainly whether you are ready, and if not, exactly what still needs work.
Manual or automatic
We teach both. A manual pass lets you drive either kind of car, while an automatic pass brings code 78, a licence for automatics only.
Your preferences count
Tell us what matters to you when you enquire, including if you would prefer a female instructor. We confirm your instructor and car at that stage.

Manual driving lessons Killarney
Manual lessons open with the basics of clutch control, moving off and stopping smoothly. Once those feel natural, you take them onto College Street and Ross Road, practising junctions, gear changes and your observations. Later lessons add longer drives and more time in the area around the test centre, which is only about 5 minutes away. Towards the end your instructor says less and less, because you are making the decisions. When that happens reliably, we talk about a test date.

Learn in an automatic
Automatic driving lessons Killarney
Ask for automatic driving lessons in Killarney when you enquire, and we confirm the car and instructor then. An automatic takes the clutch and gears out of the picture, so you can give your full attention to junctions and observation. One difference stays with you after the test. An automatic pass carries code 78, which restricts you to automatic cars. With a manual pass, you can drive both.

Learner permit holders must complete 12 Essential Driver Training lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor before the driving test. Every lesson gets signed off in your logbook. We start them from your agreed pick-up point in Killarney, and the logbook fills up as your driving improves.
Holders of some foreign licences qualify for a reduced course of six lessons instead. The full 12-lesson course is €587.95 in a manual or €659.24 in an automatic. If you need more practice once the 12 are done, we say so. If you do not, we say that too.

Getting ready for the test
Testing close to home in Killarney
The Killarney centre is about 2.1 km by road, roughly 5 minutes from town, so it is the natural choice for learners here. Tralee is next, about 30 minutes away, followed by the Mallow centre at about 55 minutes. A further centre may have an earlier date, and we can prepare you for whichever one you book.
The pretest is a one-hour lesson in the area around your test centre shortly before the test, plus car hire for the test itself. You sit the test in the car you practised in. From Killarney, that lesson starts only minutes from home. With car hire, the manual pretest costs €183.63.

Learning in Killarney
Where your Killarney lessons go
Your lessons begin with time to get used to the car before anything else is asked of you. As your control improves you move onto College Street and New Road, and later Ross Road and Countess Road. Each new road comes when you are ready for it, not on a fixed timetable.
We agree your pick-up point when you book, and it can be home, school, college or work. If you come into town by train, Killarney station is a handy place to start and finish. Whichever point we agree, pick-up and drop-off are part of the lesson price.
We also teach in Milltown, Castleisland and Kenmare, each with pick-up agreed in that town. Milltown is a distance of 17.3 km from Killarney in a straight line, and Kenmare is 20.8 km. The lessons and the price list are the same in each of them.

EDT and the test
The EDT: a guide
Think of the logbook as the paper proof of your EDT. Your instructor signs it after each of the 12 lessons, and the finished logbook shows you have completed EDT before you sit the test. Keep it somewhere safe between lessons. If anything on its pages is unclear, ask in your next lesson and we will go through it with you.

Killarney questions
A few good questions
How far is the Killarney test centre from town?
About 2.1 km by road, roughly 5 minutes. No other centre comes close to that. Tralee is the next nearest at about 30 minutes, which is worth knowing if you want a second option for test dates.
Can my lessons start and finish at Killarney station?
Yes, if that suits you better than home, school, college or work. We agree the point when you book. Pick-up and drop-off there are included in the lesson price, just as they are at any other agreed point.
How do I get a driving instructor in Killarney?
Pass your theory test and get your learner permit from the NDLS. With those in hand, use the form here or phone 021 2355558. We match you with an Approved Driving Instructor and agree where lessons start.
Can I sit my test in Tralee instead of Killarney?
Yes. Tralee is about 30 minutes by road and may have an earlier date. If you book there, your pretest takes place in the area around the Tralee centre, so let us know which centre you have.
