Lessons that start in Tralee

As a driving school in Tralee, we teach from the day your learner permit arrives right up to test day. With the centre this close, your pretest and your test need very little travel.

Collection in the price

We pick you up from home, school, college or work in Tralee and drop you back after the hour. If you come in by train, we can meet you at Tralee Casement station.

An RSA-approved instructor

An Approved Driving Instructor takes every lesson, and the car is dual-controlled. As you progress onto Russell Street and Edward Street, the second set of pedals stays ready on the passenger side.

Calm lessons, nobody shouts

Nervous learners set the pace in our cars. Oakpark Road can wait until the roads near your pick-up point feel comfortable, and we add one new skill at a time.

Plain talk on readiness

With the Tralee centre about 5 minutes away, it is tempting to book a test early. We tell you plainly when you are ready, and what is missing if you are not.

Manual or automatic

We teach both. Learn in a manual and your licence covers both kinds of car, but pass in an automatic and it carries code 78, for automatics only.

Matched to suit you

Tell us what matters to you when you enquire. You can ask for a female instructor, and we confirm who is free to teach you in Tralee before you book.

Manual driving lessons Tralee

Manual lessons start with the pedals, the gears and moving off smoothly from your pick-up point. Once clutch control feels natural, you will drive on Oakpark Road and Killerisk Road as you progress. Junctions, reversing and parking come in when you are ready for them, not before. Each hour builds on the last, and you leave every lesson knowing what the next one will cover. By test standard, you can drive the full hour around Tralee with little help from the passenger seat.

Automatic driving lessons Tralee

Our automatic driving lessons in Tralee suit learners who would rather give the road their full attention than the gears. With no clutch to think about, steering, mirrors and judgement get more of the hour. The catch is the licence. Pass in an automatic and it is marked code 78, so you may drive automatics only, while a manual pass covers both. We confirm your instructor and car when you enquire.

EDT lessons in Tralee

Essential Driver Training is 12 lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor. All of them must be signed off before you can sit your test. Living in Tralee, you are collected for each one as for any other lesson, and it goes into your logbook when the hour ends.

Holders of some foreign licences qualify for a shorter course of six lessons. Ask when you enquire and we will tell you which applies. You can add practice hours between EDT lessons if you want them, and we give you a frank view on whether you need them.

Getting ready for the test

Testing in Tralee itself

The Tralee test centre is about 5 minutes and 1.4 km by road, so test day needs very little travel. If the wait there is long, Killarney is about 35 minutes away and may have an earlier date. Newcastle West, about 50 minutes, is another option. You choose the centre when you apply for your test.

Before the test, book a pretest. It is an hour's lesson in the area around the centre shortly before your test, then car hire for the test itself. That way you sit the test in the car you practised in, and the day feels like another lesson. With car hire included, a manual pretest costs €183.63.

The EDT: a guide

Your EDT logbook goes with you to every lesson, and your instructor signs each one off at the end. Flick back through it and you can see how far you have come. When the course is done and your driving is steady, we tell you so. Then you can apply for a date at the Tralee centre.

Tralee questions

A few good questions

Is the Tralee test centre close to town?

Yes. It is about 5 minutes and 1.4 km by road. That makes the pretest easy to fit in, since the lesson in the area around the centre starts close to where you are collected.

Can you collect me from the train station in Tralee?

We can. Tralee Casement station can be your agreed pick-up point, as can home, school, college or work in town. Tell us which suits when you enquire, and we set it up for each lesson.

Is a lesson dearer in Tralee than elsewhere?

No. A one-hour manual lesson is €53.27 and an automatic is €61.41, the same as in the rest of Munster. Pick-up at your agreed point is included, and you can pay online or by phone.

Is automatic an option for Tralee learners?

It can be. Tell us when you enquire and we confirm the instructor and car. Bear in mind that an automatic pass gives a code 78 licence, limited to automatics, while a manual pass covers both.
