Learning in Montpelier

Choosing a driving school in Montpelier comes down to the basics: a good instructor, a convenient pick-up and honest advice about the test. We cover all three, one hour at a time.

Collected at home, school or work

Your instructor calls to your home, your school or your work in Montpelier, whichever we agree. The collection costs nothing, and neither does the drop-off.

An approved instructor

Lessons are with an Approved Driving Instructor in a dual-controlled car, from the first drive along Main Street to the last before your test.

Nervous is fine

If driving worries you, tell us. Your instructor keeps the car calm, never shouts, and saves Coosane Road for when you feel ready.

Booked at the right moment

We tell you honestly when you are ready for Woodview or Nenagh, and what to work on if you are not. Booking a test too early helps nobody.

Choose your car

Both are taught. A manual pass gives you a licence for both kinds of car, and an automatic pass gives you one marked code 78.

Your instructor, your preferences

Ask for a female instructor if you would like one, and mention anything else that matters when you enquire. We match you with all of it in view.

Manual driving lessons Montpelier

Your first manual lessons in Montpelier deal with moving off, the clutch and the gears, close to where you are collected. Then come junctions, roundabouts and reversing, one at a time. Main Street and Black River Bridge feature early, and Coosane Road and Cromwell Road follow as your speed and planning improve. Your instructor sums up each hour before you get out, so you always know the next step. In the final lessons, the focus moves to the area around Woodview or Nenagh.

Automatic driving lessons Montpelier

Automatic driving lessons in Montpelier take away the clutch, so there is less to coordinate and more attention left for the road. The test is the same test. The licence is not quite: pass in an automatic and you receive code 78, which allows automatic cars only, while a manual pass lets you drive both. Automatic lessons for Montpelier are confirmed once you get in touch.

Getting ready for the test

Two test centres near Montpelier

Woodview in Limerick is 16.5 km from Montpelier by road, about 20 minutes, and Nenagh is 27.7 km, about 25. Being so close in time, both are worth checking for a date. Shannon, about 35 minutes, and Ennis, about 45, are further options in County Clare. We plan your pretest for whichever you book.

The pretest is booked for shortly before your test: an hour in the area around your centre, and the car for the test itself. Automatic learners pay €193.81 for it. You arrive at the test in a car you know, after a full hour spent close to the centre itself.

Learning in Montpelier

Montpelier lessons, road by road

The first lesson starts near your pick-up, with time to learn the controls before you move off. Main Street and Black River Bridge come into the early drives. Later, Coosane Road and Cromwell Road add longer stretches and more to plan for.

Montpelier has no named meeting point on our list. Instead we collect you from home, from school or from work, at a point agreed when you book. You can ask to be dropped at a different agreed point at the end.

O'Briensbridge, across the county line in Clare, is just 0.5 km from Montpelier in a straight line, and we teach there too, along with Castleconnell, 4.1 km away. Each town has its own pick-up point, agreed with the learner when they book.

The EDT: a guide

Each EDT lesson finishes with a signature in your logbook from your instructor. That is how the course is recorded, one hour at a time. For a learner in Montpelier, it means 12 lessons from home, school or work, all signed, before a test at Woodview or Nenagh. Keep the logbook somewhere safe.

Montpelier questions

A few good questions

Is Nenagh closer than Woodview from Montpelier?

Not quite. Woodview is about 20 minutes away by road and Nenagh about 25. The difference is small, so the date on offer is the better guide. We prepare you for whichever you apply to.

Where will I be picked up in Montpelier?

From your home, your school or your work, whichever we agree when you book. Your instructor brings you back to the same point afterwards, unless we have arranged a different drop-off.

Do I pay for lessons online?

Online and phone payments both work, and neither costs extra. The prices are the same either way, and they include your pick-up and drop-off in Montpelier. A single automatic hour costs €61.41.

What do I need to start lessons in Montpelier?

First, the theory test. Once you pass it, apply to the NDLS for a learner permit. With that in hand, send the form or phone 021 2355558, and we arrange an Approved Driving Instructor to collect you.
