Littleton lessons and Thurles

A driving school in Littleton should keep things close to home, and ours does. Lessons start at your agreed pick-up, last an hour, and build toward a test at Thurles.

Collected at the school or home

The national school can be your agreed pick-up point, as can home or work. Being collected and dropped off adds nothing to the lesson price.

Backed by dual controls

An Approved Driving Instructor teaches you in a dual-controlled car, from your first slow lap of New Street to your first crossing of Drish Bridge.

Patient lessons

Your instructor keeps every hour calm and lets you set the speed. McDonagh Terrace and Main Street come before anything faster.

Ready when your driving is

We tell you honestly when you are ready for the Thurles test, and what is missing if you are not. Nobody books you hours you will not use.

Your choice of transmission

We teach both. An automatic pass is marked code 78 and limits you to automatic cars, and a manual pass covers both.

Your preference, noted

Ask for a female instructor when you enquire, if you would like one. Tell us anything else that would help, too, and we take it into account in the match for Littleton.

Manual driving lessons Littleton

Manual lessons from Littleton begin near your pick-up with the clutch, the gears and pulling away smoothly. Junctions, roundabouts and reversing come after that, one by one. New Street and McDonagh Terrace are early drives, then Main Street and Drish Bridge as your speed and judgement improve. In the last lessons, your instructor takes you into the area around the Thurles centre, about 15 minutes away, so the roads near it are familiar.

Automatic driving lessons Littleton

Automatic driving lessons in Littleton take the clutch out of the equation, leaving more of the hour for observation and planning. You sit the same test. The licence, though, is marked code 78 after an automatic pass, which limits you to automatic cars, while a manual pass lets you drive both. Ask for one when you enquire, and we confirm who can teach you.

EDT lessons in Littleton

Every learner permit holder has to complete 12 lessons of Essential Driver Training with an Approved Driving Instructor before the test. We collect you in Littleton for each one, and your instructor signs your logbook at the end of the hour, before you get out.

Nothing needs revising for EDT, as your instructor sets the order and you drive. Some foreign licences qualify for a six-lesson course. In a manual or an automatic, every pick-up in Littleton is included in the course price, from start to finish.

Getting ready for the test

Thurles first, then the others

Thurles is 9.6 km from Littleton by road, about 15 minutes, so it is the centre to try first. Clonmel is further in distance at 47 km but quicker than Tipperary town, about 35 minutes against about 40. Nenagh takes about 50 minutes. The one you book is the one we prepare you for.

The pretest takes place in the area around your centre shortly before the test, with car hire for the test itself. Manual pretests are €183.63. You drive the same car for the pretest and the test, after an hour on roads near the centre. Ask about it on 021 2355558 once you have a date.

Learning in Littleton

Littleton lessons, close to home

Your first lesson stays near your pick-up point, where the controls can have your full attention. New Street and McDonagh Terrace come in early. Main Street and Drish Bridge follow once you are steady, and later lessons go further out toward Thurles.

We can collect you at St. Kevin's National School, at home or at work. Agree the point when you book, and your instructor drops you back there at the end of the hour, or at another point arranged in advance.

Two-Mile Borris is only 3.6 km from Littleton in a straight line, and Thurles 6.4 km. Lessons run in both, along with Holycross and Killenaule, each starting from a pick-up in the learner's own town at the usual prices for every town.

The EDT: a guide

At the end of every EDT lesson in Littleton, your instructor signs your logbook. You keep it with your permit, and the full set of 12 signatures completes the course. Then, with Thurles about 15 minutes away, we look at test dates and plan the pretest once you are ready.

Littleton questions

A few good questions

Which test centre suits learners from Littleton?

Thurles, about 15 minutes by road, is the obvious one. If it has no suitable date, Clonmel takes about 35 minutes and Tipperary town about 40. Your last lessons are then shaped around it.

Can lessons start from the national school?

Yes. The school on our list, St. Kevin's National School, can be your agreed pick-up point, and so can home or work. Your instructor brings you back to the same point at the end of the hour, at no extra charge.

Can I pay for the EDT course in one go?

Yes. The 12-lesson EDT course is one ticket: €587.95 in a manual, with pick-up included in every lesson. The automatic course is priced on its own ticket, and you can pay online or by phone.

How soon can I start?

Once you have passed the theory test and hold a learner permit from the NDLS. Send the form or call 021 2355558, and we arrange your first lesson as soon as an instructor can collect you in Littleton.
