Driving lessons Ardmore
Ardmore lessons, start to finish
Our driving lessons in Ardmore cover the whole road to the test: pick-up at an agreed point, one-hour lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor, and honest feedback as you go.
Pick-up near home
Home, work or a landmark like St Declan's National School can be your pick-up point. Collection and drop-off are part of what you pay for each hour.
Approved and dual-controlled
Your Approved Driving Instructor has a brake on the passenger side for every lesson. That backup means Main Street can come into your lessons early.
Steady, calm teaching
If you are nervous, the lesson goes slower, and your instructor keeps the tone even. A skill is repeated until it feels natural.
Honest before Dungarvan
You will not be told to book the Dungarvan test before you are ready. When you are, we say so, and when you are not, we say what is missing.
Clutch, or no clutch at all
Both are taught. An automatic pass leaves code 78 on your licence, so you could drive automatics only, but a manual pass lets you drive either.
Your instructor, your call
When you enquire, tell us about anything that would help, including a preference for a female instructor. We weigh it before matching you.

Manual driving lessons Ardmore
Manual lessons from Ardmore start with the controls: clutch, gears, mirrors and moving away without a jolt. Main Street and College Road come next, giving you practice at junctions and holding a steady speed. Tower Hill joins in once your clutch control is reliable. The middle of the course adds manoeuvres and longer drives. Toward the end, lessons head for Dungarvan so the area around the test centre is familiar. Your instructor tells you plainly when you are ready.

Automatic driving lessons Ardmore
Automatic driving lessons in Ardmore let you leave the gear changes to the car and focus on observation and positioning. For some learners, that makes the early lessons less tiring. Before choosing, think about what the licence allows. An automatic pass puts code 78 on it, meaning you may drive automatic cars only, while a manual pass covers both. We check that an automatic car and instructor are free for Ardmore when you get in touch.

Getting ready for the test
Test day from Ardmore
Dungarvan, 21.8 km away, is your nearest test centre at about 20 minutes by road. The others are a good deal further: Wilton in Cork about 55 minutes, Waterford about 60 and Clonmel about 65. For most learners Dungarvan is the natural pick, unless another centre has a much earlier date.
Your pretest is one hour of driving in the area around the Dungarvan centre, or whichever centre you booked, shortly before the test. Car hire for the test is part of the package, so the car on the day is one you know. A manual pretest with car hire is €183.63.

Learning in Ardmore
From Ardmore toward Dungarvan
The opening lessons stay close to where you are collected, while you get comfortable with the car. Main Street and College Road follow, then Tower Hill as your control improves. Later lessons stretch toward Dungarvan, so the drive to the test centre is something you have done many times.
St Declan's National School is a simple landmark to meet at if your house is hard to find. Home, school or a workplace are just as good. Your instructor drops you back after the hour, and the pick-up never costs anything extra.
Youghal is just 8.1 km from Ardmore in a straight line, over the county line in Cork, and we teach there too. Ring and Dungarvan are also on our list. If you work in Youghal or Dungarvan, we can collect you from work.

EDT and the test
The EDT: a guide
Your EDT logbook is filled in one lesson at a time, with your instructor's signature after each. Keep it safe and have it with you at every lesson. The logbook shows the work done. Whether you are ready to test in Dungarvan is something your instructor tells you separately, and honestly.
